I have had my clip for a couple years now, and have just begun test fitting it. Clip and down tubes fit good. Way back when, there were a few others who got the clip, and I was wondering what inner fender panels that are out there , like Heidt's,TCI,Martz,CA, that those with this clip have used, and any pros/cons ? The rails aren't narrowed as the TCI is, but they do kick in at the A-arm area and back out again. Outside rail to rail is 32". I am pretty certain the Chassisworks one will work as rails and down tubes are twins pretty much. They are just twice as much as the others.

I bought the same clip about three years ago. Moving on my project about as fast as you.I changed my firewall in my car so the backs of my innner fenders have to be cut anyway.I am going to use tci innere fenders for the bottom and cassisworks for the top of them. The two pieces will work better. Last year i went to scotts hotrod shop. I talked to justin the owner about inner fenders then. He said they dont make any because every car fits different. He said they all fit bad , so plan on spending some time to make them fit nice. Good luck. Is your clip coil spring or airbag????:D :D

Hey Brettzer,
I bought in the same group buy you did. I didn't think I'd ever get done but I got on the road at the end of the summer. I used inner fender panels and hood hinge supports from Martz. The fit to the firewall and core support was fine, as well as the original fenders. I enlarged the cutout for the upper a-arm about an inch and it looks great (added a rubber splash shield similar to the one you can get on the Chassisworks). The way the frame rails are notched-in forward of the a-arms did leave an open gap, but in my case I needed it to run trans and oil cooler hoses. Martz is a quality product but I suspect the Chassisworks would be the best fit.

Dang, I thought I was the only one not done yet!!!!:D I feel better now. I just redid my motor mounts and the motor is in the car (test fit only). I went with the ChassisWorks panels and hood supports. They seem to fit good so far. But that is just in mock up. Every time I get somewhere I go 3 steps backward. I have the Shockwave setup on mine. It came with drop spindles but I went back to stock spindles because if an airline ever broke it would sit on the crossmember. Now if one breaks I can at least still drive it off the road. I up graded the brakes to 13 inch as well. Now the rear, do I mini tub,700r 4, there's no end.:D I'll see if I can post some photo's. Now get back to WORK!!!!!!!!!!;)

http://www.cachassisworks.com/download/catalog_cac_vol14_1-35.pdf

page 2 shows the fit on a 66-67.

The full length uppers are 12 gauge steel. We found if you made them shorter or thinner the fenders would bow in & out when you closed the hood. I don't think that would be good for long term durability.

It's airbag. I figured i would have to do some trimming anyways because of the shock and bracket that runs with the bag. I was concerned with the TCI ones because of the narrow frame rails, that they wouldn't drop to the right spot. Plus the down tubes aren't straight on our clips like the Hedit's/TCI. Thanks for the input. Keep chugging along:)

Yes, I like the Martz. We actually stopped into their shop in Bedford on the way to Carlisle show the one time. A great experience. Super nice people, and nice craftsmanship. I like the beads rolled into them also. I figured I was going to have to trim the opening for sure. They are a little more then the TCI/HEIDTS, But I could pick them up to save shipping. Glad I know someone who used them now. That gap I am sure will come in handy here also. Thanks

Yeah, always good to know others are out there putzing around too :p
I am curious about the drop spindles with the bags too. I may have to end up switching them too. I thought of using the Chassisworks upper mount, and fabbing the lowers, but I can get the Heidts complete for same price, so if they work well enough, I am in good shape. Worst case I still have to hfab the lowers. I know the Chassiworks would be the best quality route, but over double by the time I get them here is hard to justify when I have so many things to buy.

Thanks for jumping in. I had hoped you would. Thanks for the link. You make a good point with the guage. No, defintely not good for longevity. If cost wasn't a factor, I would have ordered yours already.
Curious, There was (and still might be) a Chris Alston in Toledo,OH here who does suspensions/fab stuff. Guy I work with had him do alot of work years ago. Was or is he any affiliation ?

On the drop spindles, I went back to stock height even though I have the coilover front end. When I finally got the car on the ground for the first time (with the appropriate weight on the front end), I had barely 3" clearance between the crossmember and the garage floor. Given I had no on-demand height adjustment and intended to drive on the street, there was no way I could keep it that low. As it is I still have to be careful (the local municipal exposition center has already had to replace my trans pan when their treadles punctured it).

Hey Brett, sounds like the project is moving along nicely. That's always good to hear. On the inner fender panels, I liked the Chassisworks set-up so much, that I went with their hood hinge/upper fender panel mount and modified the TCI inner panel to fit on my TCI front clip. I'm not sure how the Scott's panels would mount, but the Chassisworks pieces are very nice, and my suggestion is use them if you can. Of course, mine is a 1st gen, so 2nd may not work as well.

Somebody bought the old Alston Egineering ( after Chris left it ) & moved back to Antioch, IL, but that was years ago....i don't know if they are still in bussiness.

Hey ..i was at the Carlisle GM show this year.....it got rained out on Sunday..... I was still sweating when it was pouring.

Here is a pic of the inner panels I made. The ones in the picture are stainless steel, but I also have a set that is primer coated. I am using the CW hinge supports. If interested, you can have the primered set as I won't be needing them. I also made a set of the SS ones for 1BluII, but I haven't heard how they fit for him. Let em know.

Those inner panels look sweet!

Been offline lately, good to see there are a few others out there still wrestling with the Scott's frontends.

As Novaman mentioned, he made up a pair of the stainless inner fenders for me and in mockup, they fit very well - I will only need to make very minor trimming adjustments at the front behind where the chassisworks upper pieces meet the core support. I have to add, Novaman's workmanship is outstanding, I think when the car is done these panels will be one of the nicer modifications I've made.

The one thing I ran into with this front end was the supplied tubes (chassisworks items that Scott's included with their kit) never fit properly - they even sent me a second set, and had the same problem. Passenger side way off (1.5" +) no matter what I tried. Spent many hours on it, finally went down the street to Heidt's and bought a pair of their adjustable arms (straight with clevises on end) and made up a pair of lower mounts and welded them on the frame. They're very simple and now I have easy adjustability.

I too have fallen behind on my project (plan was to finish a year ago), so most of you guys are ahead of me at this point. I'm currently at the point of bending brakeline and hooking up the arms & spindles (I have the coilover) and am having concerns about running the dropped spindles. I guess I might have to dust off the old Pinto spindles in the back of the garage.

And, btw, "the other" Alston Engineering is still alive and well in Antioch, Illinois (about 12 miles from me).
