72GreenRally 22nd-November-2006, 06:04 PM God!!!! Look at all the work that thing needs!!!!
I wouldn't give $50 for it!!!!!!
Where is it located?? :D
It looks like a really sweet find. The body looks pretty straight, and the paint looks to be in good condition. The bench seat appears to me to still have to original cloth, in very good condition. Judging by the taillights, lack of fender louvers, and the steering wheel, I am gonna guess it is an early 71.
It does look a little bit dirty inside, but that most likely can be cleaned up. The front bumper to grill filler has some cracks, and the front bumper is pushed up. That could be from jacking it up to change a tire.
It really doesn't need much work. I would say that it is worth no less than $5-6K.
I say offer $50, then I'll buy it from you and double your money!!:D
Randy (not long ago, that was a $500 car!!)
Bscman 22nd-November-2006, 06:13 PM I could see an enthusiastic seller getting 5-6k at a car show, assuming it's mechanically sound...maybe a little less if it isn't sitting next to a bunch of $15,000 novas.
Definitely a good base for a sleeper project!
americangraffiti 22nd-November-2006, 06:44 PM Yeah, I think you oughta pass on this one.......give me the address and location :D
Seriously, these little on lady six bangers, AFAIC, make great projects for BB or a healthy small block........I'm always on the look out for these types of vehicles.
Shankin 22nd-November-2006, 06:58 PM Love it! I would let me buy it instaed!
RatNova71 22nd-November-2006, 07:19 PM Looks like a 70 model to me, by the hubcaps, steering wheel and the front signal lenses.
assuming it really is as nice as it looks, I would say it is in the 8-10K range. although I have seen similar cars go for more than that. A clean unmolested car is hard to find these days, I'd love to have it.
I do notice the front bumper has been replaced at some point, its hung wrong.
Andy (granny Nova Specialist) :)
Jason628 22nd-November-2006, 07:21 PM Greetings,
That is sharp...paint it a different color and I'd be sold! I'm too young to have a car that color...LOL
Jason
MK70SS 22nd-November-2006, 07:49 PM That looks like a great find. Give me the address and I'll go look at it for you. I'll bring my checkbook just in case....................
Sh1fter 22nd-November-2006, 08:23 PM I think it is worth an airplane ticket out to look at it if you are a serious buyer. I've seen to many "sight unseen" cars that are poor investments. It may be a very nice find. It may also be a Maaco paint job over a Katrina flood victim or a severely hit car. It does look great in pictures though. Good luck
MNYenko 22nd-November-2006, 08:57 PM The grille filler is cracked. Front bumper brackets may be bent as well. Looks like it has a painted rubber floor mat. Makes for a nice standard interior combo. If it is as clean on the bottom. It will sell for a minimum of $7,500.00. Earl
Axeman71 22nd-November-2006, 09:11 PM It is a 70.
I am trying to get some better pics sent of the under side and some better engine compartment pics. Maybe that will tell some more secrets...has the original floors that are apparently "rust free" and also the rockers and quarters have no signs of any rust...according to the seller....The front bumper does look off....so hard to tell just by pics!
Biggest concern is what Sh1fter said, that the shiny paint might be hiding something nasty! It is definately low mileage though...still has bias ply tires on it, except the front left which was the radial spare that was recently swapped out. Probably how the bumper got bent up.
john_L. 22nd-November-2006, 09:38 PM looks nice!! put a magnet on it here and there, open the trunk up and ask to remove the bottom chrome on the rear window, magnet that area and over the fender lips and or look up inside the fender lips yourself and try to find the bondo.....I'm guessing it doesn't have any bondo tho, these 'grandma' cars pop up once in a while resulting a very good find.
Dnova 22nd-November-2006, 09:49 PM Axeman71 looks like a good weekend for a road trip!!! Put some cash in your pocket, check the car out and rent a trailer when the deal is done.
All it needs is a little detailing and a set of TT2s and you're good to go.
good luck
taz3 22nd-November-2006, 10:40 PM HA!I can finally beat all you guys to this one, just PM me the phone # and I'll buy it before you oops! I mean look at it for you eh.LOL!!!
If you have another car guy(buddy) that knows what to look for bring him with you to look at the car. He'll find the bad points on the car cause he's not buying it,you'll tend to be blind to imperfections.
Looking at the pics that car will fetch $5-$10000 I've seen alot of junk sell over $3000 up are way, these were cars I would only buy for parts and people pay stupid money for them.
Bottom line is how bad do you want it,pic your number and start bargaining.
PM me for my phone # I'd be glad to help out.
You can buy a paint gauge that will tell you how much paint or filler is on the car.
Check for spot welds at bottom of 1/4's,climb under and check floor boards almost every driver I've seen the driver side gets patched, even Southern cars.
I know guys that will pay $5000 for that car just from the pics you posted.
The trunk looks real good, and that a bad spot at the rear shock towers for Cnd cars to rott.
This is a US car see if any members live near by and can look at it.
If this car is where I think it is I know 2 guys that might be able to look at it.
Paul
batman09 22nd-November-2006, 10:52 PM I agree......Easy $5-10k.So whats the seller want for it?bm

Good point here. If you don't go see it in person, you are definitely rolling the dice - no matter how good pics make it look. I'd take 10 minutes of looking at a car in person over 50 pics anytime. One man's "no rust" can be another's "nice paint job hiding something. Sure it takes time and money to travel, but one bad deal is pretty expensive too! I'd go look at it in person before I bought it.

MartyO 23rd-November-2006, 07:32 AM Love it! I would let me buy it instaed!
No more projects for youyoung man!
onecarnut 23rd-November-2006, 08:26 AM Last year I gave 4,000 for a very similiar 68 plain jane that only had 22K miles, but needed more attention to the exterior that the car you are looking at.
I suspect you will need to shell out 5.5 to 6K to get it.
Pick up a copy of "Old Car pricing guide" at your local book store to use as a reference.
Hope this helps.
Tommy 23rd-November-2006, 10:04 AM Nice Nova ! I would love to have one like that. I would stuff A big block in it and put some meat on those rims and do nothing else. It would make A great sleeper. I might drop the nose an inch or 2 ;) . Good luck with it.
Tommy:)
Toms73NovaSS 23rd-November-2006, 10:08 AM looks like a good one!! 5-7k...:D

As a comparison, (this is now mine) it's a 35,000 mile grandma car, original 6, no rust..ever, no hits. It sold for $6500 ( loonies ) ... six years ago!
2doorpost 23rd-November-2006, 11:53 AM Musuem piece without the pinstripe and Maaco paint. Potential Hot rod as is. Dealer will probably think the former and want top buck.

Looks like the back of the bumper brackets are in the wrong holes. There are two sets of holes. I did this before. The lower holes are for the camaro and the top are for the nova. Now this looks like it from the pics and I've seen alot of cars with them like that. When you use the top holes it angles the bumper the right way.

Tommy, I got a feeling that dropping that big block in there would drop the nose a couple of inches for you automatically....:D
Axeman71 23rd-November-2006, 09:26 PM Thanks for all the input and advice gang!:D
Supposed to be some more pics coming this weekend.....the guy seems reluctant to send any good photos so far (even though I requested specific areas), like under the car and inside rear quarter shots....that seems a little odd...anyway I will let you all know what comes through on the next email. Thanks again for the help!
Axeman71 29th-November-2006, 09:26 PM Thanks everyone for all the input...I have decided to pass on this one. Guy is asking $ 8000 for her. Still never got any really clear underside shots. The owner told me also that he had two small bubbles repaired on the passenger rear quarter. ...also he said he had "rocker guard" sprayed on the car...that worries me. Car is is located in Rapid City South Dakota at New Frontier Motors in case anyone is interseted. Too far from Ontario for me.....plus the Maaco paint job troubles me.
If anyone is in the area and would like to report back the real truth about the car I would love to hear it! Might still be a good score if you can beat him up on the price!
RatNova71 29th-November-2006, 09:48 PM Too Bad it didn't work out for ya. The granny mobiles are out there, you'll find one if you keep looking. Maybe you can find one still wearing original factory paint, then you can see exactly what you are getting.
:)
