Well as you can tell from the name I own a 68 chevy II And I just love the car I do not like that it has drum brakes in the front so as I read on here I looked on ebay and say some real good kits but I was wondering if I could use brakes off of another car and what those cars would be ? I really dont know alot about these cars but I would love too Just alittle about my 68 it is dark shade of red with a black vinyl top all black int. it has the orig. 307 powerglide non-power brakes but has power steering.

Welcome to the site 68 chevy II ! I also have drums on my 70 and need to make the swap ( one of these days ). Have any pics of your ride?

Awsome another 68 Nova owner! We have a large number of 68 owners on the site. I swapped over to disks a couple years ago. I figured out that it about as cheap to buy a kit than it is to buy used.

Greetings,

Welcome aboard! You can use a disc brake setup from a 68-74 Nova or a 67-69 Camaro/Firebird without any issues whatsoever. I tend to agree with others that by the time you buy all the used stuff, a kit from Classic Industries or the Paddock is about the same money and you're not using used parts.

Welcome to the site! I went the used route for the spindles (simply because I had a 72 Monte Carlo I was parting out and used the spindles from it). I bought replacement calipers, etc. and an upgraded disc set, so the parts were new, but stock type. Not big rotors, but they stop just fine. ;)

I pulled the entire assembly off a 71 Chevelle (spindles, rotors, calipers....)
The whole job took about an hour, including putting the drums back on the Chevelle.

Welcome. I also own a 68 Chevy II.

Can you post a pic of your car and tell about its history?

I am always looking for 68 parts as there is not much available in central Arkansas.

Welcome to the site! You're going to like it here!:D

I went back and forth about whether to buy a kit or hunt the junk yards and eventually ended up with a kit off ebay. It was an upgrade both to disks and to vacum boost. I am really glad I went that route. You can see it in my avatar. I also swapped in a Ford Exploder rear end so now I have power disks on all corners:cool: .........
