What I found on this site http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-codes/chevy-engine-codes-suffix-2.php is that it came from a police car in 1974.

breaks down like this, 1st letter is the manufacturing plant, 2nd two digits are the manufacturing month, the next 2 digits are the manufacturing day, and the last 2 letters( 3 letters after like '69) are the suffix code(with contains info on the engines specs)
K= McKinnon Industies
11= November
28= 28th day
CMJ=?? (can't find the book I have on motors from '70 on, will look later.)
if you can get the casting # too, will get the size too if you need it.

I was told it was a 350 and have to reason to think otherwise. It runs strong and sounds awesome.. I was told it has a cam but he could not tell me anything else. I'm tracking down the last three owners to get some history.. The one thing I'm confused about is, the entire code is 16B484158 K11 28 CMJ The second digit decode to 1976 but the CMJ decodes to 1974 Police..
Thanks for the help.. If you find anything else on a CMJ designation, please let me know..
From what I found the CMJ is from a 1974 police car and it did not list the HP (see my last posted link). I was also told it was a 350/350 so, still digging.

Colvins' Numbers book also list the CMJ as a 1975 Passenger and Chevelle 350 ci, 145 hp with "Turbo 350/400, Federal".
Since this book only goes to 75, I don't know about 76 but would give it a could guess that the code was used in 76 also.

get the casting # off the back side of the block and that will tell youexactly what size it is. thats how I found out the "350" my friend gave me awhile back was actually a '69 Z-28 302 and the "350" in my '69 is a 400

74 Police- helluva runner- tags on visor stated that the cruiser could not be left in idle more than 20 minutes at a stretch due to the possibility of causing engine damage. Cured by kicking down accelerator pedal every so often.
You have a bullet proof block there.

on the driver side of the engine on the back end closet to the firewall there is a small ledge that runs from one side to the other. on the ledge farthest to the driverside is where it is located. it will be right directly behind the cylinder head. it's most likely gonna be covered in crud, so it might be hard to see let alone read.
here's a decent pic of where to look and he's got a list of number below.
