Aftermarket Floor Shifters...

What is a good aftermarket, SIMPLE, floor shifter. I bought a B&M Pro Stick and don't like it. What's everyone using? I'll be using my car on the street a lot more than the track, but plan on running it at the track every now and then. My car is a '70 with a bench seat, so I can't run a huge console or anything.

I have a 70 SS with the bench seat. I have a 4 spd. and run a Hurst stick, no console.

Well, I don't like using the 'F' word around here, but the older Mustangs and Pintos used a real simple set-up that looks o.k. and is pretty easy to adapt.
I ran one for a few years-got it from a junkyard for $20. They were real popular with the street rod crowd in the Pre-billet era.

Greetings,

I've got the B&M Megashifter...I like the height of it and easy to use and install.

Whooops, sorry. Forgot to mention I'm running an automatic. Had a 4-speed, but just switched over...

Easy to use is what I'm looking for. The B&M Pro Stick was a little more shifter than I really wanted/needed.

I second that choice.

I was already leaning towards the Megashifter, it seems pretty straightforward to operate. My wife will drive the car periodically and I'm just trying to avoid a bunch of race car kinda complexity that's gonna keep her frustrated at me. Thanks y'all.

If you are running a bench seat, I don't care for the boxy look of the base cover on most aftermarket shifters. This new member here runs a hurst quarterstick and I'll do the same on my bench seated 1st gen. The cover is not as bulky as others and more contuored for a cleaner look - in my opinion.

I use a B&M Megashifter in my '72 as well. It started as a bench seat car, so it was placed a little far forward for my now bucket seat car.

Either way, it seemed just right for height/size.
The only thing "difficult" about it would be the reverse lock-out lever that you have to pull up when shifting from park/neutral to drive, or vice-versa. It's easy to reach while grabbing the shifter, and takes about 2 seconds to get used to.
I bought mine from summit a few years back and it came with a setup for 3spd or 4spd transmissions, and brackets to mount to th-350/400/700r4 as well as a cable (4 of 5ft) which worked great.

My only complaint was the clear-coated handle. I stripped it and polished it for a better, smoother feel--a little more shiny, too. If you don't like the black universal shroud for the shifter, it looks like it would be pretty simple to make your own.

I have a B&M Quick Silver in my '72 with a 3sd auto. I LOVE it! The only thing about it is going from drive to park, I have to "lift" the shifter up to go back into park. Your wife probably won't like that feature. It does have a positive shift though, no more missing a gear!!:D

Thanks y'all, I'm thinking Megashifter. I had a Quicksilver in my 68 Camaro and it was a good shifter, I just wasn't crazy about the whole lifting up to go from park to drive feature. Megashifter seems pretty easy, now I just need to get the transmission off the floor and into the car...
