Hello everyone:

Im looking to switch my car from power to manual steering.

Is it possible to just get a manual steering box and switch them?
Will I need other parts to accomplish this?
What are other cars could I look for to get a rebuildable unit?
Anyone has an extra manual unit, or willing to trade for a power unit?

Thanks
Renzo

You will need a manual steering pitman arm also if the box you're getting doesn't have one.

Why are you switching? the power steering steals maybe 1hp? when not in use.

if your just wanting to clean up the engine bay then I understand. but I will not give up my power till I switch to a rack on my 72

You'll need a correct rag joint also.

The reason Im switching is that I went to big block and the pulley system I have on is for a manual application March serpentine kit, the car wont see much street time. Maybe the occasional cruise to the autoparts and track. Also I dont have the pump, it went along the 350 I donated to my sisters 84 z-28.

Thanks for your input.

I did this swap last winter. You need the manual box, pitman arm, and rag joint.

Renzo,

I have just what you need. I am doing the reverse swap on my 72 and have the manual box w/ Pitman attached and I should have my PS coupler tomorrow so you can have the coupler as well. There is no need to change the ragjoint if it is not bad, you WILL have to, at the very least, get the right coupler (which I have). The only thing is that you'll have to pick it up, I am in South Orange County.

Let me know if you still need one.

Email sent.

I had someone on this site send me a steering pump pulley 2 weeks ago and he did not charge me, instead he told me to pass it along to someone else in need. Therefore, the steering box and parts are no charge. It seems pretty tight, just needs to be cleaned up
