Here are the first of many modification pics to look at.More pics to follow. These modifications are only necessary if you have rack and pinion steering["Bills II"] and the new CPP lower control arm kit. The piece that has been added has an internal plug to align the two pieces perfectly and to strengthen the joint.

I will be showing more later of everything installed after I get the car up on hoist.

Well its all together and aligned! I am totally blown away by the new setup! It handles and turns like an expensive sports car. If I move the steering wheel the slighest amount it starts turning immediately [no play at all].As a test I tried two things.I floored it not holding onto the steering wheel... it goes straight.A gradual increase in speed going around the expressway exit[sharp] until it got to be an unbelievable speed. At no point was I nervous. You almost need a harness to hold you in place it turns so good! I hope the CPP people will offer this minor modifcation of their product to clients [as an option]. The mods necessary to the "Bills II" setup are not that far fetched for the average guy to do [slightly move the rack location].

Looks great. Doesn't seem like you need that much clearance? Hard to see from the pictures but things don't appear to be moved to much.

We moved the rack because we didn,t want to change CPP,s geometry more than we had to. We also added some steering stops.

In order to make as little changes to cpp,s A arms as possible we changed and moved the rack mount. This new setup is considerably stronger also.

hard to explain but It appears that the u-shaped box that that bushing portion of the rack mounts to is still welded to the original crossmember?
looks great

Hey Arndog, the new mount is attached to the original x member. Its boxed in and drilled and tapped to accept the 5/16" grade 8 bolts

Man that looks nice. Looks like the trouble was worth it, eh? I really want to just get one of those bolt on rack and pinion set ups for my car, but I don't want to waste money on the stock clip. :(

Yeah, it looked like the replacement piece was the same diameter as the piece it replaced.

From what I can tell, it's not the diameter. The new section bows upward, whereas the original was basically straight.

I don't see where the A arm causes any problems.

Hey Now Carl and everyone else. That Looks Good. I can see where the "A" arm needed the modification to clear. and Then a little lower on the rack with the mounts, and then adding the trunnion support for the steering shaft. All of that looks Great. I personally have visited the CPP place of business. I was impressed with the design of the lower "A" arms and frame support. The men I spoke with were accomodating and more than willing in my opinion to listen and help with modifications by offering advice and possible changes in the future. Great Job Carl, as we both now understand Nova People Helping Nova People, really returns the Best rewards of all. Solutions that help us create safer and faster Chevy II -Novas. Respectfully, "Bill's" II Yeah I am finally back online, to continue with help & Information. :D

I have to give them some measurements for them to proceed. They sound like they want to get right on it! I will be giving them what they need today. The rack mount will have to be changed slightly to make everything fit.I am working along with Danno and "Bills II" to give the measurements necessary to move the rack slightly and mount more solidly.Coming soon

Not to being a smart ***** and I understand you are guru's but remember I am a newbie. Is it that the tie-rod makes contact with A arm if not modified?? Please give a better explanation ??
I remember something about Nova People Helping Nova People.

Hey Now As I mentioned in the last post here, I have visited CPP and very impressed with the workmanship and "We care" attitude with the customers. I like how Carl did the rack mount, it looks Great. Also as Carl and Danno have found out the way I first built this Chevette rack conversion was before the times we have now of clips M-II and now the Best I have seen, Bang for the Buck" CPP's conversion. Note that the Chevy II Novas 62 through 65 have rivited strut supports that need to be removed before the installation of the CPP lower assembly. The Nova's 66 & 67 have bolted on strut supports, that make this installation a little easier. The one thing I am glad of is that after talking with CPP and some workers is that one of the main players took my advice and joined this site to help with some of the technical advice related to their assemblys. Also note that CPP has a Rack mount system for the rear steer if that is what you prefer and still are running the front sump pan. Tomorrow I will post some more on this topic, as I would love to see all of this combined so our members and friends can make a choice related to $$$$$ and abilities. Sincerely "Bill's" II :chev: :nascar:

Big mahalos (thanks in Hawaiian) to chevynuts88. I have been waiting to see if these two conversions could coexist. Maybe we could hit up CPP for a group buy of the modified lower A arm, anyone interested?

So, does CPP plan on making a rack kit like Bill's to work with the new a arms? Seems like a good follow up product to the sub frame kit.

Count me in for one of the 5 kits. I have been looking at this kit and trying to do some research as to what it would take and what others thought when installed. It is always so easy in the magazine you know.

I bought one of the 5 sets of modified lower A-Arms in conjunction with the "Standard" mini subframe kit. According to UPS tracking, it should be on my doorstep in another couple of days.
I plan to fabricate the rack brackets in accordance with the drawing shown. However, before I do this job, I would like clarify the exact application the brackets were made for. I believe that the drawing shows the brackets as used by Chevynuts. If the modified arms from CPP are the same as Chevynuts' mod, then the bracket should be perfect, right? If the CPP arms have more "arch" than Chevynuts arms, then the original rack position would probably work better, right?
Do these brackets locate the rack in the same position as the original "Bill's II" setup, or will the rack sit lower (as described by Chevynuts). I only want to make 1 set of brackets (you know - get ir right the first time). Can anybody give some guidance in this matter? The Arm kit should be here in a couple of days, and I hope to be ready with the brackets by the weekend.

TTT:)
I was leaning towards a TCI clip, but I read over on www.ls1tech.com that the AC compressor would NOT fit. Looking at the pictures on the first page in this thread, it looks as if an LS1 should drop in with the AC compressor.
Now with this kit, can you run air bags? I thought I saw someones nova with stock type suspension and airbags, or was I dreaming?
One more thing (sorry if Im hijcking this thread) If read correctly, a 17x8 with a 5" BS will fit, is this correct?

This may be a stupid question but since CPP claim to make a more improved assembly, how would I know which style I would get? I was thinking of ordering it from Summit very soon but I would like to get some input here first. Thanks.................Ray
