Has Anyone Used A Tci Or A Heidts Rear Coilover Kit Yet? I Have A 67 With A Tci Front Clip And Mini Tubbed And I Was Wondering If These Kits Work Well.

I have the TCI 4 link rear in my '66. I have had it in for a couple weeks now, and haven't driven the car that much. For what I have, I have to say the hook up is 1000% better!! Before, I fishtailed like mad with just a warmed over 350. Now, the car hooks solid and stays straight and true. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting better performance.

I also did the TCI front clip at the same time. Night and day difference in handling.

The worst part of the whole install was removing the old stuff. I recommend a Blair cutter for the spot welds, saved me a ton of time. Get some extra cutters too, I went thru two doing mine. The actual install was easy. I did most of it by myself, but you'll want a helper when it comes to putting the nuts/bolts in the plates where it mounts thru the body.

Feel free to ask me any other questions if you have them.

Ken, how was the rear install? Was it pretty simple as well? I ask because I am hoping to do both the front and rear clip for my dad's 66 sedan. Thanks

I don't believe a mini tub will work without modification to the TCI 4 link. I just hung mine and the shock x member straddles the rear frame rail. The install went pretty smooth aside from removing all of the old stuff like Ken said. A spot weld driller or 2 is definitely a must.

Rich,

Yeah, like I said, the removal of the old brackets was the hardest part. The front clip was pretty easy too. I had one hole that didn't quite line up, but with a bit of manipulation went in. I did not have the down tube problem like some have said on this board, mine went right in. I did shim more than what the stock clip was at, even, but everything did line up.

Working by myself, I think it took me a day to remove the old stuff.

I will say, the instructions from TCI leave a lot to be desired, basically just digital photos with brief narratives describing the install. I combined that with a couple of articles I found in Chevy Hi Performance to get a clearer picture.

All in all I thought it was a pretty slick kit for the ****.

Oh yeah, and like Jimmy said, I don't know how you would do a mini tub with the 4 link. Maybe a mini mini tub (LOL) to gain maybe an inch. That's hardly worth it.

You would have to weld the shock mount to the frame and then cut the ear off that it has for the bolts currently. At that point, I think I would have to serious think about getting a different kit, one that is weld in.

Or just back half the car.

Thanks Ken. I really don't know what to do. I hate to minitub for an inch. I really want to use the slicks that I bought with a 15 X 8. Maybe with the perfect offset...

An 8" wheel should fit even with the stock rear suspension.

i have not use ethier of those rear clips but i have the martz rear with a cw front. the install on the rear was so easy i think it took me a cople of hours. the thing you need to do is to take out the rear end snubers and brackets and move the front part of the center trunk floor towards the rear of the car. heres the web site just check out the install photos.

We've installed the Heidt's 4-link, and it is a very straight forward install. We are scheduled to do another one coming up, but I'm not sure exactly when. We have been working on a new rear air suspension kit for the early Novas, and will be doing an install on it before the 4-link.
