I'm a new guy here.... nice site very informative.... Any ways I have a 72 nova, LT1 waiting to be installed. I need brakes and a front end rebuild.
1. brakes I know it's just about a must to have disc fronts, I think I heard on some spike TV show that S-10 spindles are the same as a nova... is this true? I would like a good set up but man 1k in brakes....
2. I read here that energy is the best way to go with the bushings, moog ball joints and such, is there a whole kit for my nova like tie rod ends, ball joints, idler arm, and so on or should I hit napa up with a grocery list?
Thanks for the help guys.... oh yea, about the brakes, if the s-10 spindle won't work what is my options for a budget front disc set up, and I am probably going to do a rear end swap to gain rear brakes.
Thanks Kevin

What I did was weekly checking for sale adds in my city on Nova, Ventura, Apalo etc. Found a guy selling his 73 Ventura parts car, showed up and he had the whole front of the car stripped, just the rolling suspension. We dropped the 4 body mount bolts and rolled into the back of my truck, wheels and all.
Got the subframe, supension, disc steup, booster and even the pedal for $500. Sripped it down and sold the upper and lower control arms for $250.
Basically have stock disc setup for $250.
Just an idea.

Surfing I found this... http://www.angelfire.com/tx/lonestarclassics/tallspindle.htm http://www.globalwest.net/1964-72%20disc_brake_conversion_informatio.htm
I don't know how much the upper control arms are but man this looks like a very good potential. I am thinking 12 inch rotors for cheap!!

I could be wrong ,but couldn't you just turn the steering arms around if not you should still be able to bolt on the original nova drum brake steering arms on to the Chevelle spindles.

I got a front wheel kit (spindles, calipar mounts, calipars, dust shields, and pads) for about $300 on E-bay all new. Picked up an 8" power booster, master cylinder, and prop valve at a swap meet for around $80.00 it was out of a 2nd gen Camaro. I also picked up a pair of new rear wheel cylinders for $20.00 on E-bay. Now all I need are new rear shoes, rear spring kit, New hard lines, and 3 new flex lines. I plan on going with stainless hard lines and the flex lines that have the woven stainless shield probably another $300.00. After that it is on to the emergency brake cables. I want new stainless, but my buget says re-use the old ones that still work great!

YES that does work on original spindles..my first disk brake convertion was from a 72 monte carlo..i re-used my arms off of my car and filpped them..however most aftermarket build one piece knuckles so the arm is cast into the mold..my dropped spindles are one piece so you cant flip them
