A long time friend and former drag racing buddy went to the last race. We both got out of drag racing a few years back. Now he has the bug bad and is jonesin' to go fast again. (I told him there is no twelve step program for retired drag racers. Putting an old drag racer at a track is like putting a recovering alcoholic in a bar.) Of course, I am expected to be involved in the planning and build-up of a new car for him.

So. I will be in attendance in Hampton on Friday night. I won't be bringing my Nova and I won't be racing but I will be there. We are scouting for ideas, parts, and a car. (He sold his when his wife was pregnant with their second daughter. Still regrets the loss of the car but feels his little girl was well worth the sacrifice.) Since he still has a mortgage, new car payment (for the Misses), and two kids; this thing has to be built on somewhat of a budget. (I hear you laughing.:D )

The good news is, he is an awesome mechanic and knows what it takes to get the job done. The bad news is he wants a 600 - 650 hp fire-breathing (sprayed) SBC powered beast capable of 9 sec runs. Now if I can just talk him out of this crazy idea able running a '88 - '94 C-10... I think (for the money) a mid 80's G-body would be the way to go. Oh well. Look for a Nova ball-cap (or Stevesnovasite T-shirt). Maybe you can get in on the bench racing between the real runs.
