You may have mess around with the rod length to get the pedal right. brickyardboy 21st-August-2006, 04:33 PM Make sure that your clevis rod pin is connected to the LOWER hole in your brake pedal arm. If not, the clevis rod will be at the wrong angle when entering the booster, and hard pedal and poor braking will result. When you move that rod from the top hole of your pedal arm to the bottom one, more than likely you'll have to re-adjust your brake light switch. You should have a tiny bit of free play (I have 1/8") before pedal arm activates the brake light switch, so you'll have to adjust accordingly. brickyardboy 21st-August-2006, 04:36 PM Have you also purchased the vacuum hose that goes from the booster to the intake manifold? If not, make sure you purchase hose that's vacuum hose rated, not rubber gas line. acadiansrus 22nd-August-2006, 04:44 PM ty to both of ya;with useing to lower hole there will be about 1/2 " before the arm & the rubber stopper touch each other!?what x ty ;shawn brickyardboy 23rd-August-2006, 10:41 AM Shawn, you'll have to either make a new rod or purchase one that is longer. The best way is to use a two piece rod with a joiner in the middle. This way you can adjust it to exactly what length you need. If you buy threaded rod, you'll have to round off the end that enters the booster as the actuating rod. Getting the old one out of the car is fun, as there's not too much wiggle room under the dash to get that little clevis pin and clip off! I'm not sure if Classic, Year One and the others sell the power brake clevis and rod, but it's worth a try to see if they do. My two piece adjustable rod came with my drum-to-disc kit from Stainless Steel Brakes. You can try them and they may sell you just the rod and new clevis. I've included a photo of the old rod out of my '69, and a rough drawing of what the new one should look like. Hope I helped you.... Whatever you do, make sure you leave a little free play in the assy. or your brake system will pump-up causing excessive drag. | |
