theracer 18th-August-2006, 03:38 PM i called Mark at heidts and ask what air ride (shock wave ) that will work to replace my front coil springs and shocks . they said it don't fit?????
I also have the 2" dropped spindles.
Jason at Air Ride said the shockwave SKW1001-LCA , that # includes their bottom "A" arm $999 plus $699 for the 2 gal tank , pump and controls.
thats $1700 for just the front. he didn't say anything about any modification to make them work . what the heck
i just what the fronts anyway so i can slam it when parked.
can anyone tell me what they install with the heidts to slam the front for show and then air up to motor.
new2novas 18th-August-2006, 07:19 PM the problem may be that even if you get the front clip for use with coilovers, the shockwaves are big and may hit the frame... i built my front clip and had the shockwaves there when i did so i could sort of build around them....would've been a heck of a lot easier if i just had gone with coilovers though
Fast65 19th-August-2006, 05:43 PM Racer, I just installed SKW 1001-LCA on my TCI coil-spring front end. Unfortunately for me I also had to purchase upper control arms because the TCI stuff I had was all narrowed 5/8". Needed longer tie rod ends for the rack as well. I don't think you have that issue with the Heidts control arms and rack. The shockwaves bolted right in, but I eventually hogged out some of the coil spring tower on the frame because there was not much clearance for suspension travel. I went shockwave at all fours so I purchased the 4000e control system and mounted it in the trunk below the real package tray. This pic shows shock tower before mods. Notice how close the air bag is.
Shane65 19th-August-2006, 06:20 PM Frank, could the Shockwave been mounted upside down and given more clearance? On the TCI coilover frame with the Shockwave in place of the coilovers, the Shockwave is mounted upside down from the conventional mounting method. There is an issue with anti-sway bars though. The sway bar for Shockwaves is different then for coilovers.

Shane, mounting the shockwave as you suggested does not give additional clearance. Anyway, the ends are different - eye/stud. Also, ART does not have threaded boss on the lower control arm for sway bar mounting. This pic was taken after shock tower modification. There is extra clearance, but the camera angle does not show it very well.
Shane65 19th-August-2006, 08:45 PM The Shockwaves I have are longer at one end. The end pieces of Shockwaves are removeable and different ends are available for different applications. There are only a few Shockwave models. ART installs the required ends to make it fit various applications. The Shockwaves that I used on my Nova last year were originally intended for a GM SSR. I purchased the ends they use for the Nova application and I was ready to install after I switched end pieces. I haven't tried but the ends should be able to swap end for end. On my car the sway bar attaches to the rear of the cross member and is connected to the lower A arm with links.
new2novas 20th-August-2006, 11:52 AM i may have to mount mine upside down as well cause clearances are tight and i can't really "clearance" anything....only thing is when you mount upside down they say you have to use stainless line....with the stock type of stud mount you can't flip em cause then an eye mount will be up top and the bottom portion (the shock body itself) is not replaceable
theracer 20th-August-2006, 06:32 PM I assume the SKW1001-LCA part # will be correct for my Heidts with 2" dropped spindles. Also the ARC2000 compressor system is correct too. This has the 2 gal tank, just wonder if a 1 gal tank would work , I have very little space.
I'm just droppin' the front.
Now that you mentioned it my sway bar bracket mounts to the lower heidts 'A' arm , will the ART lower arm still mount my sway bar?

Racer, I have the 2" drop spindles on my TCI front - SKW1001-LCA worked just fine....I think the 1 gal tank would work. The compressor will run longer and it may take a little more time to raise the front after it's been dropped.......The ART lower control arms do not have mounting bracket for youir front sway bar......
Shane and new2novas, can't mount the shockwave upside down because the shock adjustment knob would be burried in the coil-spring tower.
Shane65 20th-August-2006, 07:40 PM That would make it a pain to adjust.
new2novas 21st-August-2006, 05:40 PM oh yeah didn't think about that
FWIW i'm running the ride pro e (just saw on the website they have an e2 system, nice to get rid of those big sensors that required an air line) seems to be cool so far, i have 0 miles on it, but sitting there running it up and down is fun:D
theracer 22nd-August-2006, 04:48 PM Don't ART still offer the Econo 1000 controls with the 1 gal tank ?
Oh! what do you do if your compressor quits or you break an air line and your car is lowered down to low to drive ? Just a thought.
I also assume I cannot use my existing lower 'A' frames with the sway bar brackets.
nova656567 23rd-August-2006, 10:56 PM In the case of that happening, we & most people install a schrader fitting on the tank so you can use outside air.

Did the same here. Installed one for each shockwave. This pic shows how I mounted the two for the front lines - on the bracket between the compressor and the tank. The rears are mounted the same way on the other side. ART sells these valves - check their website. Note all plumbing and wiring was not complete when this pic was taken.
