I REALLY need a favor...

I really need a favor, because I may have a pretty serious problem. Now, I installed new frame rails in my car that was already backhalved when I got it, and now that it has a rear under it, I see a problem. First of all, the drivers side tire just touches the front of the wheel opening. The passenger side doesn't touch, but it's only about 1/2" away. Now here's the killer...The wheelbase is 111 on the passenger side, and like 1/16 away from 111 on the drivers side....not enough the effect it. The previous owner put new lower quarters (wheel openings) on the car...I don't know if he was an experienced bodyman or not, so there's a possibility the wheel openings could have been put in the wrong spot.....I need a measurement....

I need you to measure the indicated area on both passenger and driver sides, please. My passenger side is 15 1/4" and the drivers is 15 5/8"....Yea...looks like I'm redoing the quarters.....I just hope it's not a manufacturing defect in the frame rails....Thanks again....Joe

P.S.....If that's your carI used, sorry....It's the first one I found on Google :D

My quarters need replacing due to rust around the wheel opening, but, there is enough metal there to measure. My measurement is about 15 1/2" on both sides.
Instead of re-working your quarters and inner wheelhouses, could you possibly lengthen your control arms and driveshaft? Just an idea. Good luck!

My '71 is 15 3/8 on both sides ... would be 15 7/16 if I counted the little bit of weld bead they painted over at the front of the wheel well.

dumb question is your rear diff centered..i have leaf srpings on mine and after driving around the block i heard a rubbing sound. well it was from the axle not being centered on the spring pad. it was but just didnt get tightened down enough..i know you do alot of measureing i just thought it was something simple

Here's a cooky question. Should the wheelbase measurement be the same side-to-side (driver front-to-rear the same as pass front-to-rear)? I know a lot of drag cars have one front wheel a bit further forward. The rear needs to be square to keep from dog tracking, but can you really measure off the front wheel to make it square?

The rear is square...I've also measured from a hole in the front H on both sides on both sides....Plus, both quarters come up with different measurements anyway, which is not right...I'll do some more measuring tomorrow morning...I gotta put the headliner in and get started on the cage anyway...Thanks for all the help guys:cool:
