View Full Version : Maybe in 10 years...

Hey Guys,
I'm not sure how many of you even remember me now. I seem to have dropped off the radar a year or two ago. Since the boys entered the world, my Nova time has disappeared. Now I'm gonna take it a step farther. I sold my 66 sedan project to a kid from Mass named Spencer. He's got the time, the energy, and the desire to build it up into a nice little rod. He's supposed to be coming up today to pick it and all the parts up and take them home.
The car was supposed to be "the one I built the way I wanted", and it was gonna be a project for me and my dad. When he died, it was going to be a "me and my boys" project. But I just don't see it happening. And I really don't want the car to sit in the cover it forever, with me saying, "someday..." and never getting to it. So I've passed it on to someone who reminds me of me at 16, when all I wanted was a 66 Nova. He's already found a 327 for it...
So when Spencer shows up here, give him the pointers he needs, and the support he's looking for, and I know you guys will all show him the spirit of Steves Nova Site. Maybe in 10 years one of my kids will be looking for a Nova, "just like dad used to have".
I've still got my Harleys, and a garage full of tools, so maybe I'll be back sometime. Take Care all.

Hey Chris, I remember. It's too bad the Nova had to go, but you have to do what you have to do. It sounds like you have mixed feelings. It's always tough to part with something that you have an emotional connection to. Since the last time you were here, Jim (1BAD64) has sold his '64. I remember you telling me you saw us zip by your area two years ago when we went on our fall foliage cruise on our way to Lake Winnie. Hey, you can still pay the site a visit now and then, as your heart is still fond of Novas. And tell Spencer that part of the sale of the Nova is a mandatory membership to Steve's Nova Site! Good hearing from you and take care of yourself.

Thanks Bill.
He came and got it last night, and it was tough watching it go. It was sitting up on the trailer, and I was looking at it thinking, "damn, that is such a good looking little car...I'm gonna miss it." But he is sooo psyched to get it, and I'm sure he'll do a great job with it. He said he's already been here asking questions, which I thought was great. I don't know what his screen name is though.
They called me from McDonalds about 3 miles from my house to tell me when they stopped to get something to eat 8 mice jumped off the trailer and took off across the parking lot.

I don't know if you are aware, Chris, but New Hampshire rodents are not allowed to cross state lines under any conditions. Those mice are just coming back home to you!:D

Marlin, are those quarters on the wall off of the Deuce you had in Maryland?

Yea, them's the 1/4's!! I couldn't toss them out, so I saved them along with the original trunk lid and tail panel. Someday, they will be hung on my garage wall at home, but for now - they look fine at the shop :D
My little buddy Benjamin is now getting anxious to work on his '69 Nova, but I need to sandblast the underside and the rear before I can do something to it that will look like progress to him! He wants it to be green again, little does he know that it will be a long time before it's green :o

Chris,
Sorry to hear about the sale as well.
I think most of us have had to make these tough decissions. Weather is was because School, Kids or Divorce (or a combonation), it sucks to have to let go of a car dream. Atleast it was a Car that you could still find down the road at a reasonable price if you wanted to.
(oppose to a 57 Bel Air, or a 409 car or a L79, or ????)
On the flip side, I am glad my the wagon is still in a project form, because little "helpers" have "helped" some parts of the body with Chalk and Screwdrivers and have tried to help once or twice with Ballpene hammers !!!
(No no no... please don't do that !!!!!)

That's a GREAT peice of history! I wonder if you threw them up on eBay what one would fetch. I'm sure you could get money for it as a nostalgia type of thing. If you decide to part with one let me know.

Yea, almost anything can sell on EBaY it seems! It's pretty neat to see them hanging up there, I tried to trade one of them for an original '69 Yenko Camaro 1/4, but the owner only had one side. I don't think any of the '69 Nova SS parts will be hung on the wall though - mostly because I plan to fix everything but the quarters, so I'll need all of the 14 years I have budgeted!

Nice to hear from ya, Familys gotta come first. I know how hard it was to let it go but it happens. Cars can be replaced and maybe when the time is right another will come along.
