I finally got my car running this weekend and managed to put about 150 miles on it. I still have a lot of little details to finish up (interior & exterior trim, repaint trunk, install new rear bumper, etc.) but it sure feels good to be driving it again after such a long down time rebuilding the motor and installing the TKO-600 5 spd. The motor feels great and the 5 spd. sure makes highway cruising much more fun. My wife and I cruised to a small Hooters car show today, so I thought I'd post a few pics. I really enjoy working on my car, but driving it is so much better!:)
the car looks sharp man...very nice indeed. I bet it does feel awesome to be able to drive it again.;) :)

That is indeed a fine looking car. BUT.....it seems like you would have taken some pictures from inside.....of Hooters...for the rest of us unfortunate folks.:( ;)

Car Looks great man. Def a great feeling to get a big project knocked out and get it back out on the road. Did you ever get you rear drop sorted out? Car looks like it is sitting pretty good now w/ the 17's.

:D :D :D My wife is a pretty good sport (goes to Hooters with me, pretends to enjoy it), but I wouldn't press my luck by taking pics of what's inside!:)

Thanks. As for the rear drop, I haven't messed with that yet. I sort of like the stance as it sits now, so I'm in no big hurry to buy new rear springs just yet. I was mainly wanting better leafs for the rear to control spring wrap-up & wheel hop, so I'm sure I'll eventually get a better set that's designed to help that. So far the wheel hop doesn't seem all that bad, but I really haven't abused it yet since the motor and TKO-600 are both new. My engine builder said the motor was broke-in by the time it left the dyno, but you are supposed to go easy on the Tremecs for the first 500 miles.

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with how it all looks and runs now, but keep in mind I've owned this car for 20 years. It was my first car and daily driver for several years, so it really looked awful under the hood until I decided to tear it down and clean it up just recently. The body and paint is pretty decent considering this car was last painted 15 years ago.
You asked about the hood latch. It's not chrome, it's actually cad plated. I had the hood hinges, hood latch, and some engine brackets plated by a local place that does cadmium plating. I was hoping the plating would come out a little darker, more like a gunmetal grey color, but I'm getting used to it now.

The car looks great. I can relate to that feeling of finally getting a project back on the road. We had our 72 down for 7 years and just got it completed and on the road this year.

The A/C would have been GREAT to have working today, but I haven't got it working yet. I just need to have two hose-ends crimped on then have the system charged, which I'm hoping to get done this week. My Vintage Air dealer likes to keep a vacuum on the system overnight to be sure everything is sealed up properly before he charges it, so hopefully I can drop it off tomorrow and pick it up the next day.

I'm on the east side of Pearland, so the Blackhawk/BW8 area is real close to me. I drove through that area Saturday night on the way to Pasadena trying to find a couple of cruise-in locations, but both weren't happening. I'd like to find a good local cruise night location to hang out and check out some old cars, but so far none I've found on the web were actually happening. If you know of any please let me know. There's another Hooters car show this Sunday at the I-45S/Nasa Rd. location, so I might check that out. I'm selling my house and moving to Iowa in the next 6-8 weeks (or as soon as my house sells) so I don't have too much more time to enjoy cruising in this Houston heat. :D
As for my Vintage Air kit, I bought it from Roger Lewis here in Pearland. He's a great guy and was really helpful to me when installing it myself. His business is called Roger Lewis Makeover, and he'll install it for you or just sell you the kit so you can do it yourself.
