Hey guys I would like to thank all the answers thus far they have been extremely helpful. So heres the skinny. Figure a: is this trim or a 350 symbol spot? what goes there? Figure b:this is the thin paint line that goes all the way around the car as I previously mentioned, so is it factory or aftermarket paint job? Figure c:driver side front fender has a lock..why and for what? figure d: see that paint line? damn it looks factory.. what do you think? figure e: more symbols for 350 or just some trim? ok so thats the skinny and here is the vin exactly as it appears under the hood in front of the drivers side: Under the words " Body by Fisher" this is what it says

All the spots mentioned for "350" is just trim, door ding eliminator.
The striping is not stock, its a custom pin-stripe job.
The lock? you'd know better than we would, but I am curious as to what that is. Look under the hood, see if its a gas lock out or something.
I'm curious about the trim around the back side window, next to the striping in figure b. Mine only goes to the back of the window, of course its painted to match.

Then at the bottom of the window, I have just regular rubber. no paint, chrome, aluminum, brushed stainless.. whatever... The angle on this one looks too sharp, and the rubber or black silocone is showing through. Doesn't look like it is from a nova. hmmm?

a & e: Side trim, I believe 1/2", 4th Gens did not have engine identification anywhere on car like the previous Novas did.
b & d: Yes, that was a pinstripe. Some had pinstripe like that, usually with the Custom option package.
c: Not sure, can't say I've seen any other 4th Gen with lock on them like that, but who knows. Does it have a latch or something on inner fender, maybe latches to subframe or something? Do you have the key for it?

The chrome trim is actually part of the B89? option which was used mainly on Custom/Concours models and is actually a 4piece trim that goes around the entire window and uses a different seal with a groove in bottom side for the bottom piece. The standard just uses a 3 piece without the bottom section.

Nothing wrong with it, and it looks good on yours! I was planning on putting 350 emblems on mine as well and mount them just above the front side markers, but I'll have to admit it'll look better mounted in the lens as on yours and won't mess up my paint job. I bought them from Chevy2Only, and they're actually reproductions for a 73-74 Nova.

ok so no bc1 police package? I have dual exhaust, but how can I tell the suspension package I hear you guys talk about? also that mysterous key on the side of my car, yeah its not an alarm and I am kinda excitied about this lock. I actually didnt even notice it untill we were taking pictures and my girl is like " whats that for" am I am like " good question". Ok so its not a custom because of the vin but how can I tell if its a bc1 or any other special deal? Anyone with the answer to the mystery of the lock in the fender feel free to shed light on it...

As far as the suspension, if you have a caliper, measure the front sway bar, F40 and F41 would have the big 1" front sway bar, F41 includes rear sway bar. Standard front sway bar is 7/8" or 15/16" as some have mentioned. That's the easiest way to tell on that unless you have the build sheet. The shocks are also a little heavier duty but not sure on specifics. As far as police package, I've heard someone here mention in another thread that they had a 2 door with it, but the 4th Gen Police cars were pretty much strictly 4 doors. Is the lock just on the LH side or on both?
Maybe it's for a spare key holder! . Just kidding, but there isn't no telling what they were thinking back then if that is factory!

belated reply, and Tony got the questions answered for you , so is good, lol .
few comments:
1) the stick-on beltline 'door ding prevention' molding looks to have been factory, as original was also stick-on, it should end right at the NOVA emblem, just like yours does.
2) the pinstripe looks added-on to me, never seen one that curved up around the window like that, but if Tony's seen others, then it might be original or dealer ( my 72 has an original factory pinstripe, so they were done )
3) the key lock looks like a factory or add-on alarm to me - same lock as was on my 76 vette, possibly it's been unhooked, but the key left so as not to leave a hole ?
4) re: the 9C1 police package, that would have F41 suspension which has a REAR swaybar, so check that - it also has larger rear brake drums but I don't know the exact specs ( it uses drums from the Impala line ).
Best wat to measure the front bar, if you don't have calipers of a mic, is to slip an open end wrench over it - that's how we quick checked ours, if a 1" slips over but a 15/16 won;t it's a 1" bar, etc...
good luck with the ride, keep the updates ( and questions if you have em, someone here will know something, lol )
