Hey my name is Mark, and I'm new to this board. I used to have a 68 Chevelle, and I was active on chevelles.com. That was a while back though. I recently acquired a 69 Nova from my uncle. I had been wanting to get another car for awhile, but it never happened. I just got the car about 3 days ago. My uncle-in-law sold it to my actual uncle about 5 months ago, and he dropped a valve and locked the engine up. So he decided to sell it to me. Previously.. I remember my uncle-in-law having the car for at least the past 15 years.
From what I gathered from the vin+tag is that it was an L4 nova with auto trans and black bench seats. It has buckets in it now, although I'm not sure if they are correct for a 69 nova. Most of the 69 Nova pics I have seen on the net have similar seats. Also, can anyone tell me if that is the original radio? There are also a few pictures of my truck mixed in for giggles.

As for future plans.. I would like to paint the car a royal/dark blue color and add a vinyl top. I'd like some torq thrust 17's on the car also. Im debating whether or not to switch over to manual trans with a richmond 5spd street trans..

56k warning on the pics....

the seats are out of a '67 nova...they are the same seat I have...you can get the correct seat covers for a '69 as they will fit your seats...the real differences between the '67 and 69 seats are that the '69 seats has the seat back latch on the back of the seat(on yours its on the side of the back), they have a head rest(on yours it was optional), and the back of the seat is made out of plastic(on yours its made out of metal). Good luck

BTW....welcome to the site:)

thanks for the info. I figured the seats were almost right. I also like the color that the car is painted, it needs to be repainted though. So I figured I would change it up.

thanks for the welcome

Great car to start with. How did that truck get in there. Now pull that motor and put a BB in there.

thanks for the link... I was looking at that thread a few hours before I posted. Its annoying that whoever put the buckets in had the good sense to place the pass side seat so far over that the armrest (on the door panel) had to be removed in order to shut the door. That's just one more thing I will have to address...

I have (had) a 327 that survived Katrina kinda... but I'm using that block and making a 350 (60 over)

I got a new cast steel eagle crank, Hbeam eagle rods and KB forged flat top/2 valve relief pistons for it. It's pretty much just going to be a car to drive around on weekends, so I don't really need a BB...

Welcome, you have hooked up with the best nova site in existence. Since i joined, I have learned a lot, got lots of good conversation and have seen some really fantastic cars. Your car looks very good and should be a good solid start for whatever you want to do. Good luck and drop in any time.

thanks for all the warm welcomes.

the body of the car is very solid, almost as good as any I have seen lately. It's just other parts of the car that are neglected. i.e. brakes, interior, electrical. It's going to be my job to sort all that stuff out.

Anyone know if a chevelle (70) power disc brake setup would work on the Nova, even though chevelle is an A body ?

Car looks like a great start, good looking ride.

as for the seats - I'd post the 67 seats over on the 2nd gen part of this board and likely get a good buck for those,
then you could find the correct 69 seats ( or later seats ,etc - I have 91 Geo Storm GSI seats going into my 76, good fit with custom brackets - if not an original Bucket seat car, newer type seats might retrofit better than the 'staggered mount' original buckets, although iirc, someone is selling repro seat mounts ( Chevy 2 only ? ) .

70 Chevelle dics brakes are a near bolt-on for the Nova, you need the disc brake spindle and hardware from the Chevelle, but use the NOVA steering arms ( they fit the A body spindles),plus you need the Master cylinder / proportioning valve, which should be ok for a Nova, but might not be exactly the right valving ?

Welcome to the site and have fum with your Nova !!!

thanks for the info on the brakes. I know where a 70 chevelle is that survived Katrina (well... not really) but its there for the taking if I want it, so I may just grab all the brake hardware that I need for my nova.

Just giving an update on this car...

We got the engine together and back in the car, sounds nice and mean.. also we rebuilt the trans and replaced the ring and pinion, so now the drive train is solid. The original rubber hoses were still in place for the trans cooler, so we swapped those out for some steel lines.

I just ordered some carpet, and door lock, trunk lock sets, and some other dress up items. The car is much cleaner on the inside, and the wiring under the dash has been cleaned up dramatically. I also ordered a set of kick panels with spots cut for 6.5" speakers from Vintage Vibes. I'm going to go ahead and have the seats recovered while they are out and we are installing the carpet. Hopefully I can post a few more pics once it is back together.

If you sell the truck, you could by the 502 and a really nice tranny to go with it. Seriously, welcome to the board and good luck with your new toy. I've never seen and actual 4cyl Nova before.
