Opinions on this 1970 nova pleasebatman09 21st-July-2006, 10:44 PM I like the car...I don't like the interior....any thoughts? http://classychevy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=45977 Joe 21st-July-2006, 11:17 PM BM,It looks like it could be made into a Nice Car if the Dollars were right. The interior needs to go and it would be nice to know what was done at the Heater Box Area as it looks to have been a A/C Car. 72GreenRally 22nd-July-2006, 01:18 AM Bruce, it is a nice car, but I agree about the seats. They gotta go. I don't even know what that front bench came from, but is not a 70 Nova. It should have headrests, and not have that trim up the rear of the seat back. It looks like it is missing the B-pillar covers. I also believe it is an SS clone. It is hard to see the master cylinder, but I do not see a power brake booster. All 69-72 Nova SS cars came with power front disk brakes standard. Everything else to ID an SS is easy to fake. The grill and tail pieces are there, but are very easy to add, and are very available from any Nova repro source. It is missing the fender louvers that are also standard on a 71 SS. If he does not have documentation that says it is an SS, look at it as a clone, and buy accordingly. Randy (Don't know what a clone is worth) the FLYER 22nd-July-2006, 01:24 AM i was questioning whether it's a factory BB car... if it was, wouldn't it have a factory 12 bolt ??? he says it has a 10 bolt in it, but HAS a 12 bolt ta go with it... yeah, i agree... the interior stinks ;) 72GreenRally 22nd-July-2006, 01:26 AM In the ad he did not say it was a factory BB car, just a real SS. Big blocks got the 12 bolt, and small blocks got the 10 bolt. According to Novaresource, a 70 SS could have a 10 bolt. Randy (I'm a good parrot, ain't I!):D the FLYER 22nd-July-2006, 01:33 AM good point Randy, but an SS is an "SS" why'd ya wanna go talkin' like he's talkin' 'bout a "True" SS if it's the wrong engine etc... right ??? maybe as was been hinted... maybe a clone or a modified SS, but certainly not original modified, but a modified modified... know what i mean Vern ??? ;) ktownkid 22nd-July-2006, 01:38 AM 1970 small block L-48 Novas came with a 12 bolt. ktownkid :) 72GreenRally 22nd-July-2006, 02:49 AM 1970 small block L-48 Novas came with a 12 bolt. ktownkid :) According to www.novaresource.com there were some made with a 10 bolt. 1968 thru 1971 = optional package: there is no way to verify an SS these years without some original paperwork. In-dash tachs, floor consoles/shifters, console gauges, bucket seats and even 12-bolt rears are NOT indications of a real SS. There were real Super Sport Novas built with the standard dash, column shifters, bench seats and 10-bolt rears. However, you can guess at it's originality. First, all 1968 Super Sports have finned front drum brakes (standard Novas have non-finned drums), and all 1969-71 Super Sports have power front disc brakes. The next thing to check is the engine code. If the engine is original (the last 6 digits of the VIN are stamped on the engine block) and it has a application code (also stamped on the block) that decodes to an SS only engine, then you have a real SS. Without the original engine or some original paperwork, you're basically out of luck. good point Randy, but an SS is an "SS" why'd ya wanna go talkin' like he's talkin' 'bout a "True" SS if it's the wrong engine etc... right ??? maybe as was been hinted... maybe a clone or a modified SS, but certainly not original modified, but a modified modified... know what i mean Vern ??? ;) The second sentence in his ad says "True SS". To me, that means it came from the General as an SS. Changing things does make it modified, but it does not change that it was originally built as an SS. know what i mean Vern ??? Randy (Don't want Bruce paying an SS price for a clone);) Gloryhound 22nd-July-2006, 09:11 AM Ultimately to use the words "True SS" when selling a car you need to have some proof. Just like dogs you need something that proves the pedigree otherwise it is just a regular mut even if it looks like the best example of a breed, without the papers its a mut. The only exception to this are when the Vin proves it such as the 72 Nova and even that requires a little looking around since while it is illegal it is still easy to do vin and trim plate swaps. 69NovaSS 22nd-July-2006, 09:17 AM You can see some banding in the paint job.....I'm not sure if its shadows or if its actually a candy paint job gone bad......but if its the paint it will be expensive to fix..:) 69NovaSS 22nd-July-2006, 09:23 AM The second sentence in his ad says "True SS". To me, that means it came from the General as an SS. Changing things does make it modified, but it does not change that it was originally built as an SS. know what i mean Vern ??? Don't call me Vern...lol....J/K......Ya if the car was an SS from the General then it will, IMO, always be an SS...that cannot be taken away from the car cause it is what it is...BUT once modified it is nolonger an SS in original condition it is, as Randy said, an SS in modified condition....sorta like my '69...its an SS but its in modified condition;) RatNova71 22nd-July-2006, 10:37 AM wow, those seats are really bad. I think you can do alot better for 20 grand keep looking. henrypgrogan 22nd-July-2006, 10:50 AM From what I see in the pic of the interior, it looks like he has placed a cluster of gauges where the center a/c vent used to be. Therefore I'm guessing it no longer has a/c. Also, look at the pic under the hood. There isn't enough room for the evaporator coil on the passenger side of the engine because of the tubing coming off of the intake/carb area. hpg 2doorpost 22nd-July-2006, 11:35 AM Could be nice. Not for that price. ampeg 22nd-July-2006, 01:11 PM I agree with what most people said. The price seems high for around here. It (the interior) would turn out nice though with a factory console and some bucket seats and a stock comfort grip steering wheel. The trunk looks like its in great shape on the inside. Jason70SS 22nd-July-2006, 01:53 PM I am not sure what your price range is, but this appears to be a nice car... http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/2/5/84537425.htm http://www.berrymotorcars.com/images/69NovaSSb-2.jpg I really want to buy it but am trying to convince myself otherwise. Someone else needs to buy it to kill the temptation! sixtyII 22nd-July-2006, 03:11 PM Nice car for a project. Just not a 20k project. ampeg 22nd-July-2006, 04:50 PM Is that rocker panel chrome molding correct on that car? The reason I am asking is that I may do an SS clone on mine. thanks batman09 22nd-July-2006, 04:54 PM I am not sure what your price range is, but this appears to be a nice car... http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/2/5/84537425.htm http://www.berrymotorcars.com/images/69NovaSSb-2.jpg I really want to buy it but am trying to convince myself otherwise.
