I think we should have this in our Best of Tech section. Let's build a list of cleaning supplies, cleaning preparation, cleaning, drying, and wipe-down steps. Will be nice to have for future reference.

Cleaning, Drying & Wipe-Down Steps:
The trick is to not let the motor's machined surfaces sit with water air drying on them...they will rust if you do that....the best and easiest way to do this is to have help......

1) Scrub the heck out of it and then while your wife is rinsing it off with the hose trying to keep as much of the motor wet at all times

2) Grab a can of WD-40 have her stop spraying it with water and the second the water stops you start spraying it with WD-40....have a spare can of wd40 handy and when your wife puts down the hose she can grap the WD-40 and spray it down with ya...the WD-40 is just to repell the water off of the machined surfaces

3) As soon as all of the machined parts are sprayed with WD-40 you can start to dry the motor off with towels or compressed air

4) When it is dry then you can use the ATF to clean the bores

5) Use oil to protect all of the machined surfaces

6) Put the motor in a bag until your ready to assemble it

Ive also read that in some cases and depending on the vac that a good Wet/dry vac with a small hose attached will do better at getting the water out than compressed air. I havent tryed it yet but will soon.
