Looks interesting and I love the "run what ya brung" aspect of it but not having lights will be a problem if they have close races....I mean they are a big organization you would think they could have bought/borrowed/rented some temp timing lights and a tree...just my thoughts....I might go as a spectator...though If all I had ever seen of it was the poster I would not have likely went cause the only cars on the poster are ricers....BUT I would love to see another track open near by:cool: :)

I saw that on another site but no lights so no ET plus they want 20 bucks to get in. Seems like alot when you can go to T&T at Greer or Shadyside for 7 and 10 and race on a real dragstrip with lights. They use to run real drag races with all the right stuff at Charlotte Motorspeedway on pit road. Turns 3 and 4 were part of the shutdown area. RM

I heard that rumor a while back when Summit opened up in McDonough and nobody could confirm it, but I guess that it was true.
Expect to see a couple 4th Gens there. Rusty and I will be there with our 4th Gens. Unfortunately we won't be racing this week, but expect to see us there more often once our cars are ready. I just finished rebuilding my motor and rearend and haven't broke it in yet, but once I do, I'll definitely be out there to have some fun with it.

Used to be able to here at Dallas, GA but they sold it last year and is being tore down for a mall or something. Now it's Atlanta Dragway in Commerce which charges same $20 on Friday nights, and now thankfully we can go to the Speedway which is about 80 miles closer. Hopefully it gains enough popularity to keep it a regular thing.
3 classes: Import, Domestic and Pro (trailered cars) and it's only 1/8 mi., but it's a start. I've heard talks that they are planning on actually building a strip in the center field too, but I imagine they want to see what kind of turn out they can get before spending all that money, and not to mention the fact that they can't run drag races on Nascar weekends unless they actually make it seperate from the Speedway.
As far as not having lights, the intent is to make it as close to street racing as possible, to keep it off the streets and on the track where at least a certain level of safety can be provided. It's full heads up with what you bring, no bracket racing involved.

I think that someone at the Atlanta Motor Speedway has watched too many episodes of Pinks;) ....BUT with that said I hope it works for them and they decide to build a track...:)

I found out to that no burn outs to heat your tiers up.I now for sure that there will be some 5 sec. mustangs down there and if they can't do burn outs somebody might hit the wall. They need some one that knows about drag racing to run the show. All they know is roundy-round.

I was kind of wondering about that too. I'll just be spectating tonight and see how it goes. I'm sure as time goes on they'll make a few changes. As with anything new, it's a trial and error thing. Sounds more like it's for the average street cars that don't have enough balls to be a drag car, but a place for them to show off anyways.

Man was that ever disorganized! I don't think they expected that kind of a turn out, neither did I. Got there about 7:15 right after gates opened, and didn't get in the gate until 10:00-10:30. Burned 1/8 tank of gas just waiting to get into the gates.
Several people that went to race and enter the show didn't get in the gate in time since everybody had to go in the same entrance which was through the tunnel to center field on the North end. There must have been somewhere around 1,500+ spectators and about 100+ cars that raced. 2 laps around the track was free tonight, but unfortunately I didn't have my car.
They definitely have to change something there like put spectator parking out front and open a couple gates into the grand stands. By the time I got in, they knocked $2 off the admission, but I had already missed the first 1-1/2 hours of the event even though I was there an 1-1/2 hours before it even started.
At least I got to see the Pro cars drags, which some were and some weren't actually Pro's. The cars that could were doing burn-outs, and nothing was said about it. There were spectators lined up all along Pit Row and even a good crowd in the grand stands, so it definitely proves that there needs to be a drag track on the South Side of Atlanta.
It was a good turn out definitely, but they have to do something about spectator parking and participant entrances. The infield parking lot was filled up and many people got tired of waiting and parked out in the grass parking areas coming in and walked to the tunnels gates. It would have been much simpler to open Gates 11-12 and have spectators come in that way. I think their intent was to keep people out of the grand stands, but if so they didn't block off the tunnel from pit row so many people were still going up there.
Here's a few pics we took from the fence line at starting point: AMS Friday Night Races (http://www.gen4novas.com/gallery2/view_album.asp?Ad_ID=58&CatLevel=2&Cat1_ID=7&Cat2_ID=&Cat3_ID=&Cat4_ID=&FromSearch=True&SearchPage=%2Fgallery2%2Fdefault%2Easp%3FCatLevel% 3D2%26Cat1%5FID%3D7)

I think I recall talking to someone that fits that description. There were so many people along the fence line, even being right up front I couldn't see anything after they passed the 60ft mark. The people in the grandstands had the best view definitely. I have plans for next Friday, but if they change I may race my 76SS. If not the week after will be definite, and also have a friend with a 77 Rally and he'll probably race it too, if I do.

Nope, I wish my car was already painted. Primer gray at the moment with black 4" cowl.
Will be getting HOK silver base with metallic green top coat hopefully within next week or two. Have a couple body details to finish before I reprime and paint her.

Went back again this Friday. Much better getting in. You can only go through tunnel now if you're competing and have to park outside if spectating. Spectators are still allowed to cross through tunnel to pit road to line up the rail.
Rusty and I raced our 4th Gen's together. We both have different setups, but was very close right to the finish line. Rusty's sporting a 334 9.5:1 (305 bored .30 over with 400 crank) that dynoed out at 318HP with 350 trans and 8.5 w/2.73 gear, and I have a 350 8.5:1 factory bore, big cam and not nearly enough compression (lol) with 350 trans and 8.5 posi 3.42.
We weren't too clear where the finish line was, but they gave the win to Rusty. No matter, it was fun either way and that's all we wanted.
