Has anyone heard that there is a large cruise-in up there this coming Saturday? If I can find out more and it looks like a happening place to be then I will drive the "Deuces High" up there.

I think they have that the first Sat. of each month. We had a Nova club there but it may have folded. One of the members here was the Pres.
I need to check in with him. Here is a flyer from last year

MOUNTAIN EMPIRE NOVA’S
- Chapter of National Nostalgic Nova –
East Tennessee- Southwest Virginia – Northwest North Carolina.

Dear Nova Owners & Enthusiasts, April 15, 2005

. I’m Harmon Duncan, and you are getting this letter because you expressed interest in forming a Local Chapter of NNN and hosting a National Nova Event in this area. Please visit www.nnnovas.com for the story of NNN, our national events and regional activities.

After a 30-year career with General Motors, Sally and I returned home last year, to where we grew up in these beautiful mountains. We attended our first Nova Nationals in Louisville, KY in 1989 - got hooked on this group of folks - and have been involved with NNN ever since. We helped start Peach State Nova in Georgia and in 1990 hosted the 1990 Nova Nationals in Atlanta.

As of January 1, 2005, Mountain Empire Novas has been added to the list of Local NNN Chapters. We are a start-up group with no officers or scheduled meetings. Just show up at the Elizabethton Cruise, the 1st cruise of each month, find my ’63 white SS Convertible and that will be our meeting place. There will be a newsletter, March – October, with news of interest to Nova folks and with information on shows and cruises where we may elect to participate as a group. The cost of all this is $15.00 per year. That will pay postage for the newsletter and our annual $125 expense to the National Club, which is required of all Chapters to provide insurance for sanctioned NNN events.
We want YOU as a member. NNN is coming HERE in June 17-18, 2005

Friday, June 17, Mountain Empire Novas will host a 2-day NOVA ONLY event in Johnson City, Bristol and Elizabethton. This event is the climax of two (or more) Nova Power Cruises from Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and points south. The out-of- state clubs will host cruises and shows during the week in their cities, then line up and cruise to Johnson City on Friday, June 17th to gather at NASCAR CAFÉ. A show will be held by NNN at NASCAR with awards given. Cars are expected to arrive just after noon. The parking lot will be roped off at 1:00pm until late evening. The official hotel for the event is the Holiday Inn, N. Roan.

Saturday morning, local and long distance Novas will meet at Holiday Inn and cruise to Bristol Motor Speedway, to arrive after 8:00am. We will be part of the St. Jude Car & Motorcycle Show at BMS beginning at 10:00am. Arrangements have been made to drive your Nova around the track. A donation of $20 per car with proceeds going to St. Jude’s Hospital will get you on the racetrack. BMS will also allow us (as a group) to cruise over to Thunder Valley Drag Strip and take our cars d-o-w-n the track individually. More information on BMS activities will be sent to you as we iron out the details and schedule.

Saturday evening we will participate as a group at the Downtown Elizabethton Cruise. Special parking has been arranged through the fine folks of Carter County Car Club. We plan to arrive shortly after 5:30pm. Awards will be given out at the Cruise for all the events leading up.

Saturday afternoon (between BMS and the Cruise) we plan on making available two or three area cruises, escorted by Mountain Empire Nova members, up Roan Mountain and to Little Wilber/Watauga Dam. The third cruise is open for suggestion and depends on participation numbers. We have no way of knowing at this time how many Novas will be in each group so details for these cruises will be last minute arrangements.

Trailer parking will be available at Holiday Inn for guest staying there, in the Johnson City Mall next to Sears (directly across the street from NASCAR) and behind NASCAR Café for Novas not street legal. Overnight security is planned for the hotel parking lot.

Nova Power Cruises are a new thing for NNN. We’re adding this event at the request of our membership and hope it will continue in the future. The mainstay of NNN is the Nova Nationals, a 4-day event held each August. 2003 was in Indianapolis - 2004 was in Atlanta - 2005 will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In September there is a Mini-Nats (a 2-3 day event) on the west coast. March finds us taking our Novas to Orlando/Kissimmee for a ‘thaw-out” weekend in Ole’ Town.

MOUNTAIN EMPIRE NOVA includes east Tennessee, northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia. You received this letter because you expressed an interest in joining our group and inviting NNN to our area. Please complete the attached membership roster and mail it with your check for $15 ASAP. We’ll keep you posted on the details.

There is no count yet on the number of Novas expected here in June. Based on previous NNN participation we are preparing for120+ cars from 12 states to be here, and 50 to 60 local Novas. Forty-one local Nova owners have signed up to receive this letter.

Thank you for your interest…

They cruise every Sat night downtown...used to be next to the highschool but have moved to the downtown area due to it getting big. Lots of nice stuff and lots of big motor stuff there, always.
