We've talked about it- and it won't fall through the cracks. I want to try to throw our So Cal Nova group a get-together. It's going to be either the first or second weekend in Sept. Hopefully- this will be enough of a heads-up so that all who can attend can mark the calender. I'm hoping that everyone who has a car can drive it. Then after later in the evening, we can try and hit a cruise night, or just have our own cruise. I'd ask that you guys let me know in the next couple weeks so I can get a head count. I'm going to line up a well- known mobile taco grill that makes killer food to show up and maybe we'll get some well known and historic Novas to make it too. Thanks and I hope all can attend. Dale

We'll let you through since you are a nice guy! Looks like I'm going for the first Sat. in Sept. That'll work for 'Cage ??? You had that Sunday booked up, right? We'll try and get Augie to bring his injected altered out. Maybe the Wilshire Shaker can be towed in on it's hind quarters since it donated it's front end to (GULP !) The Fairmont Funny !!!! I looked into having it at a local public park, but that won't fly with beverages and the local law, so it'll be at the spread. Got a nice, quiet street (not for long) and good neighbors as long as no-one leaves black stripes down the middle. There's a big school parking lot around the corner- never know who might show up from the mag's to get a group shot of hot srteet iron. Either way, I'll tell about 60 or so heads at seven tacos apiece (King Taco is good ---- these guys I'm trying to line up pull off major authentica) and we'll have a blast. Dave- your dad is always welcome, you know that!!!

teddisnoke
24th-June-2006, 02:37 AM
These guys are BETTER than King Taco. I know, how do you trust a white boy about authentic Jalisco style tacos? Um- I'll give you a refund if you think they are not? ;) :D My wife says they make one of the hottest red and green sauces around. ;) I prefer to stay away from that stuff.

Hey Dale, What's the distance from Laguna Hills?? I would love to make it! I would feel safer on the freeway if I could caravan with some other guys though. It's just plain dangerous doing 53.5 mph in the slow lane!! Thanks for getting the "ball rolling".

I like the idea of cruising up as a group. I just got back from our annual block party and let everyone know about it, asked that if anyone had any issues to please let me know before anyone anonymously made a phone call. As expected half the group wanted to be invited!!! One asked if he can roll his unfinished '69 Camaro down and park it with the other cars.:D For now, I'm figuring close to 50 people. About two weeks away, I'll get one more final head count. As far as bringing stuff, I'll have a couple big chest's with drinks, but if anyone has something special, so be it and bring it. Foods covered. I may ask, if anyone wanted to slip a buck or two into a jar, I'll have out, that'll help too, but no pressure. I've wanted this for awhile, and I'll cover whatever. Also, don't want to get too carried  away, we are all driving some nice iron and don't need Johnny Law (no, not johnny rotten;) )around.

Mike and I are working on some "commemorative" T-shirts. There won't be anything with the site logo, but rather a "appropriate" feel. They will be low buck so we can all afford them ($7-8) .Question is: Everyone wear large or like a slightly looser extra large??? I'm hoping these will be a shirt to be spotted in at the drags or cruises or when they finally wear out, to be turned into the ultimate way to pay homage to an old t-shirt----- a wax rag!!!:D So, I guess my question is::: A head count and size so as not to get too carried away when we order??? Mike and I are heading over today for the shirts. I just got back from a local 50's style eatery, Legends, located on Route 66 about four miles or so from the house and asked about having them set aside twenty or thirty spaces in the back row for us to drive to later on for floats, sundaes, etc... They have a nice outdoor gathering area in front of the place so we can keep an eye out. Manager inked us on their calender (which was suprisingly full of similar car stuff) so that can happen after eight o'clock or so. One thing- does anyone have a rusty fender, old bumper, or some reasonably small piece of a Nova that can be used for this get-together? Since this is the first ever, I'm trying to make a "guest book" of sorts, using a piece of an old Nova.:D Now- I need to make a shirt count. Gotta check with these old posts. Dale;)

I'm paying for 50 people for food @ seven tacos apiece.Wife says I should have chips and salsa and I'm going to try and get NOGO to make a donation of a big bowl of his killer guacamole (?) i talked with the taco guys yesterday to confirm. I'll have a couple ice chest's, but if you have something "special" you might want to bring a few of your own to drink. Most of us will be driving, so I don't think people are going to get too carried away with a kegger (except maybe NOGO).While it's not an open party, its more of an invite only for all of us guys from here on the site, but your children can come as its all about us as a group. Foods about seven dollars a head. T-shirts are going to run about the same. I'm going to pay up front for it all, and hope honesty will prevail at the BBQ by putting some type of collection jar out for people to donate to. That's about the best I can hope for. I don't think our group is of the mooching type.If there is any left over ,I'll write a check to Steve's Nova Site as a donation from the "South Western Forum Members". I'm going to make a somewhat final count tomorrow night from this thread for the t-shirts as they will be making them soon. Dale;)

I can't believe it's this coming weekend!! Is anyone up for a caravan from "the south"?? I would like to leave early, probably 2:30-3:00. It's that rear gear thing again, plus I would like to park somewhere close to Dale's house if possible!! I would be heading up the 5 to the 55 to the 91 to pick up a friend in Placentia. We would then continue up the 57 to the 210. Come to think of it, maybe I should leave four hours early!!

Steve's altered wheelbase car is still without it's front axle(it's on the AWB Fairmont!) and Pete's got a birthday party for his 2 daughters to attend.

The response for a caravan has been "underwhelming" to say the least. So here's my "plan". I will be leaving my house in south Orange County at 2:30. Like I posted before, I will be traveling up the 5 Freeway to the north 55 Freeway to the west 91 Freeway. I will be picking up a friend in Placentia. I was thinking about a good spot for others to hook up with us and came up with the Target store parking lot at the Yorba Linda Blvd. off ramp on the 57 Freeway. It's on the east side of the freeway and I should be there by 3:30.
I'll be taking off by 3:31, hopefully to get to Dale's house to get the proverbial "good parking spot".;) If I don't make it in time for that, I might have to take advantage of the valet parking Dale has graciously offered for late arrivals.:p On second thought, I'll be the valet parker for anyone that needs that service.:D

---------------Grrrrrrrrrr All the tire shops close at 5 or 6 pm. I was left with Walmart and they dont carrying anything in a 235/60/15

Sears even says they need to order them. Where is the days from the 80's where you could call up Super SHops and get them n/p ;(

My next option is to try and call first thing at 8am and get them before work.- risky but I may try it...... I'f I can pull this off I'll meet up with Joe some where off the 57.

Last option is to put the wheels back on and just go for it.

In my quest to drain all the beer from the cooler and deposit it into my personal beer recycling center, I neglected to make a deposit at the donation can. If anyone else had a similar memory lapse, I guess we should send Dale and Rosemarie a little something to defray the cost of yesterday's affair--It seems a lot more shirts were handed out, compared to money that was handed in.
Again, a big THANKS is in order to the Snoke family for having us!

And thanks to those who commented on my photos; you'll have to excuse some of them--I had to hold a beer in one hand most of the time, which made it difficult to keep my camera in the proper direction!

I'm still grinning too. Especially when I watch this
vid (http://lyndonjscott.com/photos/galleries/cars/tacocruise2006/vids/cruisin.avi)
my car was vibrating from all of you guys driving around me (i couldn't even hear the lil 194)

Thanks a ton for letting me joing the fun on such short notice. Chad(my roomate) is thinking it's time for a nova too. Not bad - convinced 2 friends this week that they needed to buy novas.

any m/l tshirts kickin' around? I'd like to buy a couple if you got them.

I'm working on getting some of my vids/pics on the web. in the meantime, here's a good one:

7 miles to Mike's house, 5 more miles to Dale's, 4 miles of cruise?, 6 miles home, lots of revs, couple of "adhesion checks," 8 gallons of racing fuel at $4.85 a gallon = $38.80

Two t-shirts and some killer tacos = $30.00

Hanging out all afternoon with a bunch of fellow Nova owners = PRICELESS!!!

Thank you Dale and thanks to your family for putting together the Bar BQ.
The Tacos were great and it was a real good time getting to meet everyone. I think there were so many people some I didn't even get to meet.

The cruise to Legends was great, cool watching the people kind of flip out seeing so many Nova's.

Thanks again

Well, I just got home 5 minutes ago. Decided to take surface streets!! That's a lie, but I did take surface streets from Placentia, after dropping off my friend Tom. My car was not built for NASCAR and I couldn't bear to hear the revs on the freeway anymore.
Anyway, what more can I say that hasn't already been said? I think you deserve a huge pat on the back for just pulling this off Dale. I know it was a lot of work and I don't think you realize how much it means to a lot of us to be a part of this "family". A big thank you to Rosemarie and kids for opening up your house to a bunch of Nova nuts. It was just a perfect afternoon and the evening cruise was a blast. Bench racing is fun but actually driving the cars is priceless!!
The pictures are awesome Mike. And I'm not just saying that because my car is in some of them!! You might think about doing that for a living.;)
It was a surprise seeing Nick too. What a small world.
Now for a little fun story about the ride home. Didn't have any problems but I'm always up for a little impromptu street race now and then. As I said, my son Jeff and I took surface streets home from Placentia. Everything was pretty deserted at that time of night. We ended up on Irvine Center Drive and pulled up next to an Infiniti G35 Coupe. Now I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I don't see the reason for racing foreign stuff, but then again, what the hay!! And when my son said something like, "you can take him Dad", well, watch out!! So the light turned green and we both kinda eased into it and then, wham, the "race" was on. I was like a man possessed. I heard some good second gear rubber and saw the Infiniti fading fast in the rear view mirror. When we pulled up to the next light my son made a comment to me about this being a mid-life crisis car for this guy. He was kinda old like me and didn't look right in that car. We both had a good laugh about it. This guy kept flooring it at a couple more lights down the road but he didn't get to waste anymore of my gas. A fitting ending to a great evening.
Thanks again to everyone involved.:D :D

Thanks Chuck and everyone else who inquired about my aborted trip to the "cruise". Sorry I missed you all. Car has never gotten hot before, even at the Route 66 Rendezvous. I was at the 91 and Magnolia and it was almost up to 220. Got off the freeway, let it cool down and it did the "hot no start" thing. Talked to Joe and knew I wasn't going to get to Yorba Linda Blvd. and the 57 in time. I think the 100 degree weather and heading East, the electric fan just wasn't pulling in enough air. When I got it started and headed back West, with just alittle headwind, it ran about 190 all the way home. I am going to change the starter this week and hope to see you all at either Irwindale (red car) on the 14th or the donut shop on the 23rd.

My car got up to 180 Saturday which is unusual for me, it'll usually stay about 150 just puttering around--it was HOT out there.

Christian BTW, thanks Christian for covering me from the back all the way. And for Fred on some of the way back to Placentia. It's always nice running in a pack to run "interference" for each other.

Also glad to hear about you getting home safely Brian. It's no fun watching the temp go up on a hot day. Or worse yet, watching it go up on a cool day!! I was running about 185 on the freeway and 180 on the street. Didn't "puke" though. :p

111 octane available at DeWitt Fuel in Chino. And a darn shame it is right around the corner from my office. The fuel is made by F&L fuel in Long Beach, CA so it doesn't have to go too far. I tuned my car for that stuff and now I swear by it. It isn't C16, but then again I don't need that much. 111 and 10-11 lbs. of boost keeps the "knock doctor" away.

The date will be Sept. 2nd, late afternoon.I just got off the phone with "The Original Mobile Taco Grill". They stay for about three hours, that ought to give us enough time to eat, then go cruise if we want. They have a minimum of fifty people, so I guess if less show, more food for us. We are inked in.;)

Hey, Have you guys picked a location for the BBQ yet? If not you might think about Doheny State Beach park. At the rear of the park their are tons of parking spaces right next to the sand with tables etc. If your interested and their are enough vehicles I am sure they would block off a section of the parking. I just attended a Woody meet there in April and they blocked off a section for them.I am still on foot so I would only be their to drool.:)
