Well the date is near for the Hot Rod power tour to drive though Perry GA.
Mon. June 5 - Perry, GA, Georgia National Fairgrounds
So who is thinking of stopping by to see whats up??? Possibly we could have, as was suggested by Burningsquirrles in another thread, a Steves Nova Site get together...
Perry is about 2 hours, give or take a bit, South of Atlanta on I75....you can actually see the fair grounds from I75. It should be a good time
:)

BTW for people that have done the power tour thing before....how do they do this...I know they have to travel from city to city so when would be a good time to arrive at the fairgrounds to see the tour? :)

ah crap you beat me to it! lol...
we could meet for breakfast somewhere rustic and local in Atlanta and then drive on down to the power tour. That would be cool. "Steve's does Perry" shirts would be funny, too :D:D
i'll probably have to take my volvo. i should get a license plate frame like WFO that says "i'd rather be driving my nova". if i took my nova, i'd probably use up 8 tanks of gas and break down more often than i stop for gas :D

I'm less that 20 minutes from Perry...meeting up in the Atlanta area for breakfast might not be a real option for me:)
BUT for you guys in the Atlanta area that might be a good idea and then you can cruise down to Perry together....

20 minutes? i thought you lived over on the west-north side over iun the dallas, GA area... or maybe that was tpinova.
what we should do is get a map and put up pinpoints so we know where everyone is, so we can have a place to meet up and drive together. alternatively, we can have brunch in perry after meeting up and cruising from atlanta. hell, we could even do our own thing the day before on sunday.

Naw I'm in Warner Robins...straight south of Atlanta.....I'm not sure that is TPI either...I think he is from the Locust Grove area...somewhere around the place the new Summit store is...I think....
Well as more people come on board for this I'm sure we can figure out the details...we have a little less then a month to work it out...;)

Most of the crowd doing the full tour will arrive around noon. They should all be there by 2 or 3PM. Not everybody travels together. We chose to leave early every morning to avoid so much stop and go. (I wanted to use my cruise control.) Many others did the same. Especially vendors.

You will not be considered part of the tour unless you have one of these. You have to have all of you paperwork in order to get one.

Actually Hot Rod Magazine was theatening to bar rental cars from the tour after so many were entered last year. I don't know if they acted on that or not.

If you want to show a real Stevesnovasite presence at the Perry stop of the tour, I have a few suggestions. First, get a list of who is going and were they are coming from. How cool would it be for the guys from further north (NC, SC, Tenn, etc) to drive in with the group from Atlanta? Talk about a mini-tour. Second, how about a window decal or tag with the site name. Third, a sizable group of Novas parked together at the venue wouldn't hurt.
If you have never been to one of these, it's hard to image 2000 vehicles at one venue. It's impossible to see it all in one day. There were cars & people in last years tour that I never saw or found. If you don't meet up prior to arriving at the venue, you may not find the group at all. Seriously.

big red x in that other post... what's the pic?
and yeah, if we all cruise together we'd have to put something up and weat a common shirt or hat, or a decal of some sort. it'd be nice if we got at least a dozen or so of us.

How about something sooner... Summit has cruises every Monday, maybe we could all take off early and head on down there. Just a thought. Traffic would be a killer  Or how about doing it on Memorial Day?

69NovaSS
24th-May-2006, 09:49 AM
well what time do they start the cruise on Mondays?
Ya there is some places near the outlets to eat...BUT if you go up the interstate from summit a few more exits towards Atlanta there is a ton of places to eat...there is a big home depot there, a Ross, along with about 20 + other stores...its a big plaza...not sure of the exit number...I think it might be the 3rd exit from summit towards Atlanta:)

people start rolling in at 5 to 5.30, and the official time is 6pm to 8.30pm. there are food vendors, and people can shop, eat, or hang out in the parking lot.
unfortunately, there will be no cruises on holidays, ruling memorial day out :(:(:(

atlanta dragway, about 45 minutes north of where i live in lawrenceville. you pass the mall of georgia in buford on i-85 north and keep going past the fork at i-985, and procees past year one in braselton. can't miss it, it was one early exit that goes throug ha back road, and a main exit at the tanger outlets that approach the strip from the other side. if anything, follow the hot rods :D

OK. It's official. I am thrashing to get the car ready for a trip to Perry,Ga on June 5th. As usual, it's a solo project so I've got my work cut out for me. I got the differential disassembled, cleaned, and mostly reassembled before I had to go to work today. (I wish I had a shop at home instead of having to drive to and from my folks house to wrench on the car.) Still haven't finished stripping the wheels for paint. I need to pick up two new tires this weekend. The list usually grows as you get closer to something like this. (I know it did last year.) I think my chances are pretty good of having it drivable again by Monday. If I make it, don't be surprised if I show up in a car I didn't have time to wash or detail. If I'm not careful, it might get mistaken for a car that actually gets driven.:D
So, anybody got of head count of how many members of the site will be driving south on I-75 on Monday. Pick a landmark and set a time for everybody to meet there. A group of Novas traveling together would really turn some heads and make for a more enjoyable drive to the venue.

Since no one has suggested a meeting place for Monday, I thought I would toss an idea or two out. I did the tour last year. (This year I will only be going to the one Georgia stop.) Usually the folks on the tour start arriving around noon and are all in by 3 PM. I am thinking that rolling into Perry around 11 AM would be best if you want a good spot and to keep a group together.
For the folks headed south on I-75, Summit Racing is very easy to find since it is adjacent to the interstate. Mapquest estimates a drive time of just under two hours from Summit to the Georgia National Fairgrounds. A group could meet there and leave for Perry at say 9 AM that morning. Someone closer to Perry could pick a meeting spot near the venue for everyone else. Any smaller groups meet with the Perry group and all of the stevenovasite crowd could drive in together.
If you haven't been to this thing, it is hard to image just how large it is. You will not see everything. I could not find a lot of the people that I had spoken to prior to the tour last year. If you want to meet up with anyone from this site, you need to have this organized.

Made it back safe and sound from Perry. Saw some nice cars. Met some nice folks. Extremely tired now from days of thrashing added to way too little sleep last night. I did not meet one person who had even heard of this website. Oh well. There will be more carshows. Maybe next time.

I got there at about 6pm or so and only stayed a little over an hour and a half:o ....there were some pretty nice cars there and I think I may have seen your car, was it parked under or very near by a bunch of trees?, Anyway when I stopped by to look at it there was no one there....so I looked and moved on...nice car by the way:cool: ....I also saw the Nova we had a thread on here about the sleeper one with the duel turbos I believe...pretty cool car...my wife couldnt believe I was interested in such a rough looking car.....she just doesnt understand;) ....I would love someday to drive a leg or two of the tour...not sure I would want to do the whole thing but hey ya never know...:)
Oh ya the new Camaro(2009 I think?) was there too...IMO it doesnt look any better in person than it did in the pictures....I sure hope they dont build that thing...i still dont like it:(

Actually those wer dual superchargers. I talked to that guy in Gainesville and that car is capable of 9 second passes. He had a hard time hooking up here because of the street tires tearing up the rubber on the track. I ran into Bruce and Patty (Pronova) and we chatted for a little while. Nice people, and Patty is a true car person.

I did not make it to the Perry stop, but I was able to see a lot of the cars here in Thomson today. I did not even know we were on the route for the tour, but it was a pleasant surprise when I left my office for lunch. I was pulling out and noticed several nice cars passing by. I sat there and a few more passed. Then I made my turn and saw a group of them pulled over in a parking lot displaying their cars. That is when I realized what was going on. I called my boss and told him I was playing hookey for the rest of the day. I then drove up to Sonic and found their parking lot completely full of hot cars. There was a really nice red Nova there but I could not find the owner. I think the license plate was from Gwinnett County GA. Was that anyone from on here? I think it was a 70 or 71, red with black stripes.
Anyway, it was a treat to see the cars that came through. Makes me want to do the run in my 74 next year. Then maybe in my 64 C-10 the year after.

There is a picture of my car from the Perry show in the SHOW & SHINE area. Thank you for the compliment. I moved my car under the trees at the end of the day but I was never farther away than the red Hemi Cuda nearby. I was wearing a Nova ballcap. We probably walked right past each other.

Agreed. The rear of the roof and C-pillars are nice. The rest of the car is too squared off. And Camaros aren't supposed to be that big and bulky. That thing looks more like a Hot Wheels car than a actual production vehicle.

Ya I agree about the roof lines being decent but the back end of that car...WTF is up with that the top of the trunk must be close to 4 feet high...though its not jacked up at all with the top of the trunk soooo damn high it gives it a stink bug look....plus the boxy way the front and rear of the car looks makes the car have a Chrylser 300 look to it...(I hate that car too) Your right on the money with the comment about Hotwheels....I wonder if GM hired away any of the Hot Wheels designers lately:rolleyes::D:)

Ya it was the end of the day when we got there...I'm sure your right then that we likely walked near by one another....It was nice to see that all the hard work and thrashing you had done on your car to get it ready had paid off for you... :)
