this might sound like a stupid question but i figure ill get some of you guys thoughts, When u run a gm old style self contained pump with a ford rack and pinion , what fluid do you use atf or power steering fluid? i always thought that rack and pinion systems used power steering fluid and pumps with a gear box used trans fluid , does it matter ??

dosnt really matter the system will run on either fluid, but i would recommend useing a high quality power steering fluid

Power steering fluid in a rack & pinion ... or it voids the Warranty (at least that's what the tag says ;) ) ... I have run other fluid in the "old stuff" out of immediate need - but recommend the high quality power steering fluid.

So my vote is for real power steering fluid ... otherwise follow the stated manufacturer's directions (when possible :) , unless stranded  , or out of service :D ).
