Tire suggestions

My son's 71 Nova has 12.5 " wide Mickey Thompsons on the rear and they stick out past the fender. The car as air shocks and we are afraid if the shocks fail what could happen. Anyone have any suggestions on a good street tire to replace those monster tires with?

I have mt 11.5 drag radials on my 71, but the rear lip has been rolled to help clear those, and like yours, the previous owner used air shocks, but even without them they should fit, BUT I have not yet measured the backspacing yet.

I plan on putting on plain steel wheels this summer and using 275/50-15's or 275/60-15's. That seems to be the the largest you can run from what most people say, and that is using a rim with 4.5 bs.
