Where do you get a 502 motor? Did they come in specific vehicles? Is a 540 a 502 thats stroked?

A 502 is a crate engine, though you can make one from aftermarket parts. It never came in a production vehicle.

Although the 502 was never available in a production automobile, it has been a commonly used marine engine for at least 15 years. It's possible you could find one of those to buy for street use. I'm not sure how hard they are to find, but here's one: 502 marine engine on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/502-Gen-6-Complete-Engine-Good-Running-Engine_W0QQitemZ4623248104QQcategoryZ50442QQssPage NameZWD6VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

My buddy bought a new 3500 Chevy truck last year. He told me he got it with a 502 and the Allison Trans rather than the diesel cause it cost less had more torque, and HP and he could work on it. He had a 98 model with a 454 so I figure he knows what he bought but I sure can't swear to it. RM

That would be the 8.1 liter; like 496" Not a 502"

Chevy offers an 8.1L engine in their 3/4 ton trucks, but that doesn't translate to 502ci. 8.1L is only about 494ci.

OK, then that must be what he has then and he just thinks it's a 502. He said the thing pulls great either way. Thanks. RM
