I was wondering if it was anyway to tell if my 64 ss came with a v8 or I6

I think the radiator is different between the two engines. Also, the rad spacer I think is different. My radiator had the inlet and outlet on the same side(passenger side). Mine was a 283/auto.

Check Nova Resource for sure if you can tell by the VIN and Cowl tag they will know. The six didn't use a radiator spacer and the V-8's did. All that is easy to change though. Using the cowl and VIN is the only way to be sure.

Where does your fuel line come into the engine compartment?

passenger side

Acman,

I believe the V8 gas line ran in the outside passenger side fender well (behind the wheel) and entered the engine compartment near the battery tray. The 6 cylinder entered the engine compartment next to the brake line on the passenger side.

Yeah, what Mike is talking about, if you look closely under your battery tray if the car is a 6 cylinder you will see a plastic plug where the V-8 fuel line would have been ran through at the factory if it were a V-8 car. I know when I converted my 65 from 6 to 8, I ran my fuel line through there. Brett.

From my understanding the 447 number meant it was an SS car and didn't mean it was a V-8 or 6, but I could be wrong:rolleyes:

In the VIN a I6 was 437 a V8 was 447,I think.
In 1964, there was no way to tell from the VIN or cowl tag whether a Chevy II was a V/8 or six. 447 was a Super Sport and could be a V/8 or six. 437 was a Sport Coupe, again either a V/8 or six.
