Well the new bullit is done and going on the dyno in a day or two, I'm really hoping this thing puts out some good numbers but who knows! My best friend that I race with every weekend just had his new combo done and dynoed at the same shop and his made 985HP on motor alone. My combo isn't quite as radical as his but it should still do fairly well. Here's a list of what's in the new bullit.

540" Merlin III Block
15.1 CR
AFR 345 Magnums CNC w/ Jesel Shaft System
Comp Cams Solid Roller .812" int. & .820" exh. with 290* @ .050"
Callies 4.25" 4340 Knife Edged Crank
Reher Morrison CNC Single Plane Intake
Pro Systems 1200cfm Dominator
MSD Crank Trigger to help keep the timing stable.

I'll post the dyno sheets on the board here when I get them.

How much more radical can you get!?

Looks pretty nasty:).

I know the feeling of waiting for the dyno day. We're just starting putting my new 496 together. It'll be interesting to see what numbers your's puts out. We hope to have mine together and on the dyno by the 28th.

Craiger Race Engines out of Clymer,New York. He builds alot of the Empire Super Sprints engines, NMRA Super Street Engines. He had a 360ci. SBC out there a couple of weeks ago that made 730HP. I'd really like to see somewhere between 750 and 775 out of the motor that'd put me running somewhere in the 9.50 range on the motor and spray it and get an 8.90 out of it. I will definetly keep ya posted on the results!

I think that motor will make alot more than 775! I have a similar motor in my chevelle, and it made 873@7300.
It'll be a fun one!

That'd be great if it did make more I just don't want to set myself up and be dissapointed. My buddys old 540 was only 11:5.1 with a set of Bowtie Heads and a cam with .690" lift and it made 740HP on the same dyno last year so I'm really optimistic about the whole deal!

Dammmmm. I don't know if my motor makes enough power to even be your starter...

A buddy's 540, a lot less radical, made 760hp and runs 9:70's un-tuned. So you are going to have a rocket!!!!!!

Like I said all I'm hoping for is 775 and if she makes more than that's a bonus! The engine builder seems to think it will be around 750 or so but our two engines are the first all out BB Drag Race engines he's done other than some SBC drag stuff, so I'm hoping he's wrong on his predictions.

A buddy of mine has a Shariff 540 725hp. His 3900 56 chevy runs 10.38@132.
So in a lighter car, say 3500 with driver, that would be a 9:90 car.

Well the results are in and I'm happier than ever. We started dynoing at 2:45 and just got done about 6:30, all went well and she put out an impressive 860 HP @ 7300 and 680 ft. lbs tq. @6000. So like I said all is well in the NastyNova Garage! Here's a few pics from tonight after we loaded them in the back of my truck. The big guy is my best friend I race with and his 598" on the left and then I'd be the smaller guy with the 540" on the right. Thanks for everyones posts and input! Thanks guys!!!!!!!!

Are you running a vacuum pump on it? Sounds like a nice piece and you got the good numbers you were looking for. What kind of centerline on the cam? What numbers did those AFR heads flow? You will like the Jesel shaft system...I've used them on another engine when I replaced a stud girdle setup...much nicer and didn't need the tall valve covers.

I did not go with a vacuum pump yet....I'm leaning that way but wanna do some more readin up on it. The heads are only ported in the combustion chambers and flowed right around 410 @ .700" and 415 @ .800" with this setup. The cam centerline was a 112 and after going through the valves tonight on the dyno it's 100 times better than a girdle setup. Thanks for the compliments Mike!

Assuming your ride weights in at a heathly 3600lbs with driver, that thing alt to run 9:40-9:50's... Looks great.

What did you plan with on the dyno that added or loss power?? I played with timing, jetting, and carb spacers and found about 28HP as a result.

well i can tell ya that this motor is awesome ! that thing pulled all the way from 4000 up to 7500 and then hard off the throtle and sat ther idleing at 1250 rpms like it never moved the throttle ! our engine builder , cam selection and especially carb man , hit it right on the button ! great mill there buddy ! now lets get er in the car , and abuse those tires ! ....lol

You might look into the vacuum pump option. You will usually see about 15-20 more HP and better oil control. If you wish to have a good discussion about them, I highly recommend you give Steve a call at Star Machine. He is one of the innovators in vacuum pump technology for racing applications and always takes the time to talk and share his knowledge.

Here's a link to his web page: http://www.starvacuumpumps.com/about.php

Yeah we race at NYIRP just about every week, I do recall seeing a Camaro like the one you described there in the past. As far as our car goes it's a TH400 with a brake, the suspension consists of Mono Leafs, CalTracs, a full 10pt. cage tied to the subframe. If we can keep her from standing on the rear bumper this year we should run some low 9.40's if all goes well. I'll have to tget the car scaled again to get an accurate weight this season.

I guess will see in about a month, I was looking at bending some 1 5/8" tube and welding it to the front frame rails and taking it up to the firewall are somewhere just to help eliminate any front flexing. I'll probaly just wait and see what it does before I do anything though.

Did you put in some type of adjustable rear ballast yet? Do you use those threaded travel limiters in your a-arms at all?

Scuncio
24th-March-2006, 09:35 AM
Yes, foreward bars(from main hoop through firewall to the subframe are a big help) How do you like the trans brake-first time I used one I was shocked!-Bang off you go! With some traction I would say 9.40 or better. Monoleafs and cal-tracs you must have some time in those-if you have the limiters on the front end I'd say your going to have to tie it down to save the oil pan and rear bumper-do you run it in any limited tire class? What back tire do you use??I have a friend (Paul Ferruci) who is a TRZ dealer. They make great tubular A arms. Doug
