: another 7.5 to 8.5 rear swap question

i am almost ready to swap the 7.5 for a 8.5 and got to thinking
will the original drive shaft work or will it need to be shorter?????

i know on the G body it was 1 inch shorter .....

oh yea...........

new rear is a 8.5 housing new eaton posi carrier with upgraded springs
30 spline yukon axles and new yukon 3.42 gears all new from top to bottom and end to end.....:D

The driveshaft will be about 1.5" too long.
Here is a photo of the two side by side, the holes in the peg board are 1" spacing.

Our local driveshaft shop shortened my driveshaft, put new u-joints on it, and balanced it for under $100.00. If your shaft is too long (hard to imagine having that problem:)), at least it's a relatively cheap fix.

ran out to the local pull a part and got a short drive shaft today for $15.00
