I checked the casting number on the back of my block last night and it looked like 3932386 which indicates 1969 4 Bolt 350 LT-1 300-350HP but this would be a corvette block right???

I was expecting my block to read 3932388 which is the 1969 4 bolt, 350 300HP or 302 / 290HP

Is it possible that they would use a 386 block at the factory in a Nova, maybe if they were all out of 388 blocks???

I'm going to try to get the suffix code tonight

Yes that is possible and likely what happened. They did all kinds of things to keep the line moving.
My buddy bought a brand new '87 Oldsmobile Cutlass. When he tried to do any work on the engine (air filter, oil filter etc) nothing would fit. The dealer checked the engine numbers and they found out why nothing fit. It was not an Oldsmobile engine. The engine was a 305 IROC. It turned out that his was 1 of 14 cars were built with Chevy engines because there were no Olds engine left that day.
Anything is possible.

Are you positive it's 386? I have a set of 920 heads and it is real hard to tell they 92's not 820's. 9, 8, & 6 are hard to tell as the casting molds were not 100% perfect.

I went back and re-checked it last night. Casting is very clean and it's definitely a 6 and not an 8.

That being said, I didn't check the suffix code, or partial VIN. Where is the partial VIN on these blocks? down by the oil filter???

'Chevy by the Numbers' shows the 3932386 block as being used in just about all 1969 Chevrolets.....full size passenger cars, Chevelles, Novas, Camaros (302 & 327) and Corvettes. It shows the 388 block in 1969 as also being used in some full size passenger cars and as a 302CID in Camaros. It also says it appeared to be indentical to the 386 block.

Thanks for the help guys. The website I looked at didn't have all that information but I was told it was the original block so I wasn't sure.

Thanks again

Nova partial VINs and engine assembly codes are on the passenger side pad at the front base of the head.
