I just bought these wheels and was wondering how tall and wide of a tire will fit on a 71 nova.
Wheels are 15x4 and 15x8 they say they have a 4.5 backspace but when I measured that was to the outside of the wheel so I would say they have a 4 inch backspaceing.
I just don't want to try a bunch of tires .there are to many of you that should know what will fit .
Thanks

you really need 5.5 bs on a 15x8 otherwise they will stick out to far and rub regardless of size tire....

I have a 15x8 with a 4.5 inch backspace & run a 275/60/15 drag radial. I rolled the fender slightly, so a 5 inch backspace with a small spacer to center it up would have worked even better.

Maybe since I still need to build a rear end I will just make it about 3 inches narrower than stock would that work or am I going to run into problems on the inside ?

I agree with bigdaddykane 5.5 bs or shorten the rear 1" per side and make up for the bs. To run 4.5 bs you'll have to jack the car pretty high to clear the tires. Pretty sure you'll have to move the shock's in too. Nice wheel's but IMO the Disc Brake center cap's will give a cleaner look especially on the skinnies. Good Luck hope this help's

Every car is different. I run 15x8 wheels with 5" of back space and on the left side I use a 1/4" spacer. Running a 18x9 slick, things fit nice. Fenders aren't rolled or trimmed at all. Tire will rub if I take corners fast, etc.

My 71 I have 28x9 slicks with 8" rim and 5.5 bs. On same wheels I run 28x10.5 MT Sportsman Pros but I have to run 7/16" spacers to get them to clear.

I have a 70 and I run a 15x8 with 5.5 bs with a 28x10 inch slick with no modifications to the 1/4 panels, I only inverted my rear rear shocks for the clearance.

15x8, 5.5 bs, had a 29x9 slick and now a 275-60 drag radial....both fit fine.

72 255/60/15 et radial on 7" rally 4" bs clears by 1/2 on the out side. With 15x8 4" BS hope luck is on your side,or your ride is sitting high.

-68 with 15x8" 5 1/4" bs.
Inboard moved lower shock brackets (1 inch or so)
Cutted outer fender lip and some sledgejob to inner fender.
28.9.15" ET-drags fits but rubs inner sidewalls when turning hard in speed.
27,5.10,5.15 ET-streets fits exactly the same way.

Why didnīt we get the same space like the Chevelles

Will try 29,5.9.15 ET-drags this year..theese will need some more job to fit.

When I had my 68 I ran 15x7 Pro Stars with 255/60/15 Drag Radials. I had 275's but they didn't look right.
