Hi, I need some help with choosing the correct coilovers for my Chris Alstons front end. We set the car up to sit low. Ride heigh is about 7 " the shock from center to center is 13". Will QA1 work in this application? I think the part #is DR4955B Its 11 1/8 compressed 15 extended 12/12 to 131/4 ride heigh with a 10 inch spring. I am not real sure. Thanks for your help. Eric

Doesn't Chris Alston make his own shocks for that front end? If you have made modifications simply give the needed dimensions to any of the shock manufacturers and they will point you in the right direction. Collapsed, extended and at ride height.

I believe you are talking about Chassisworks front end. There is an Alston Race Cars who build chassis & components as well.

Once you get the car where you want it to sit, you will need to measure available shock travel for both compression and rebound and will want to have it near the middle range at ride height. I would call Jim or Mike at Chassisworks and get their input since I believe it's their front clip.

hmmm .. who could you ask.........

So which front end do you have.? The shock needs to be matched to the
system.

It's a Chris Alstons Chassisworks g-machine sub frame. Nothing has been modified with the sub frame. Thanks Eric

If it is one of my bolt on front ends, the shock ride heigth is 12" bolt to bolt normaly.

I guess i am not following your specs... you say you have it set up low, but 13" bolt to bolt would indicate higher than it was designed.

Mike, One of the problems we are having is the car has 2 3/8 header tubes with 4 1/2 collectors. We are trying to bring the car up to about 7'' rocker ride height to give it more crearnace. Thanks for all your help,Eric

so, with it mocked up @ ride height ( where you want it ) it is 13" bolt to bolt on the shock mounts ?

is this a drag only, street strip, cruiser, or handling style car ?

Mike, The car is a used for mostly drag racing and I drive it to the local hang outs. Its a 14to1 540. Its alot of fun to drive. 13'' center to center will put my rocker panels at 7'' from the ground. Thanks again for your help Eric

we have a 4.25 travel front shock that can ride @ 13"

it is a custom part, for people that want the car to sit about stock height.
