Steering Wheel Nut

I recently replaced my steering wheel on my '72 Nova SS. Does anyone have the torque specs on the steering wheel nut. I torqued it to 35 lbs, which is for the same year pontiac. However, the steering column behind the wheel creaks now when I make a turn. Thanks for any help.

Nothing worse than a loose nut behind the steering wheel.

My 1971 assembly manual does not spec a torque setting for this nut so I just snugged mine up. I could be wrong but this does not seem to be a critical area as far as torque specs.

Check out your other column mounting bolts and see if anything else is loose.
