Scimitar 7

Ok guys, I know this topic has been covered thousands of times, but I can't seem to find the answer I need.
I have a '70 Nova with four wheel drums, and like many, want to convert to discs. I understand that the spindles are "rear steer" and that "front steer" spindles won't work (for obvious reasons). But what's to stop me from just switching them around (right-to-left, and vise versa).
Reason I ask is that I have a set of spindles, calipers, rotors, the whole shebang, off an '86 Monte Carlo. The Monte spindles seem to be the same dimensions and all as the Nova's.
I know that there's supposedly a reason that it won't work, but what is it? Everything I see says that it should work.
