Question about LSx and steering

If you do a LS1 into a 1st gen with stock steering, you need to use the GTO pan for clearance, correct?

If you were to install a rack kit, would the GTO pan still work, or would you need to go back to the stock camaro pan?

I have the stock pan on my LS1 but also have a GTO pan sitting in the garage. I was going to run stock steering, but I have been entertaining the idea of putting on a rack and wasn't sure if I would have to keep the stock pan or run the GTO.

Which rack kit were you entertaining? With our kit your original pan will work just fine.

I don't know which kit yet, if I do it. I think your kit is at the top of my list, but there is a laundry list of things I need to complete the LS install first...

Speaking of which, you guy still have those nice steering arms? I may need to order a set in the next month or so. (They do work with the CPP drop spindles/zero offset brakes, right?)

I figure the stock camaro pan will work, but will the GTO pan work with your kit?

Here are the dimensions of the two different oil pans. Would the Church RP kit work with the GTO pan? If it will work, I was going to sell the stock pan, if it won't I can just keep it on the shelf for a while.

I can't be sure about the GTO pan. It may clear the factory crossmember but with the rack there it may interfere. If anyone has a picture of GTO pan in a stock clip with the factory cross member maybe we could decipher if it would work.

I would say if you have the camaro pan why go with the GTO one?

The Camaro pan he has posted is pretty deep,it could be a ground clearance issue.

I have a question, will the camaro/firebird pan fit on a tci clip? i'm assuming so but wanted to check. Aesthetically I like the look of the camaro one because it reminds me of the Moroso pan. Clearance and not busting open my oil pan is definitely ranked above aesthetics, but If I've got enough clearance with it..why not.

Anyone use the camaro pan? if so how much clearance do you have with it?

The camaro pan should fit with an aftermarket clip, the clearance issue is the rear sump on the camaro pan and stock steering, it won't work with stock steering.

Chuck, I have the GTO pan because I was going to keep the stock steering, at least for a little while, depending on when the car money runs out.

Does the Church rack mount in front of the kmember, where the brake line routes?

The Camaro pan works on a Heidt's clip or TCI, as long as the sway bar is not at the rear, if you use one.

913, I believe the second pan is a truck pan, as I have a camaro pan, and it is not that deep, in fact, the bottom is exactly level, with no side indentations....

In my stock clip LS1 set up I used the gto pan,but sill had to modify it to work with the power steering assembly. I can share some pics with someone if you give me your email. They don't show the crossmember, but should help.
