Ok so im in alittle bit of a draw back. I've decided to sell my second daily (Honda Accord) and im gonna have about 1800 to spend on my suspension. Ive already replaced all bushings, body mounts, ball joints, and tie rod ends but im thinking I'm not gonna be happy with the stock suspension. As far as Hotchkis goes, is it worth it and will i be happy with it for a daily driven application?

Go for it. I got my TVS off E-bay for $1049 shipped to my door.

Check out my build thread. I'm almost on the road... :o

Installation was easy, and from what I've heard, the ride is stiff but not overwhelming (like Global West).

Not to bag on an LT1 but why not just toss an LS motor in it?

Aren't LT1's expensive to build?

Well I really want fuel injection and you can pick up a decent low mileage LT for less then 2 grand. The LS is kinda exspensive and for what ill play for the LS i can build a mean LT

The Hotchkis springs will definitely work in a dailey driver. You don't need the rear sway bar, so that will save you some bucks. Get the springs, front sway bar and shocks to suite your taste. I have Konis and they work well with the springs.

Still probably don't need the sway bar unless you've tub'd it and have lots of rear tire.

The Hellwig rear sway bar is my choice, but if comes with it so be it..Hotckis had a little pissing match about there sway bars on Protouring.com..lol good times

There's ways to check to see if you need a rear sway bar, but like I said if it comes in the kit, just run it

Re-flashed by Brian at PCMforless.com to eliminate the smog junk, VATS, etc etc. As far as a Caprice goes, you can get them for cheap - just be sure to stay away from the police cruisers - they get beat on HARD. :beat:

Agreed!!!!! It takes the same amount of time and effort to swap in a LT1 or LSx.

John

YES! :o They are cheap to pick up in a running car, but they cost almost the same to swap in as a LSx motor. Also, it costs more money to modify a LT1 because there is hardly any aftermarket support.

Think of it this way - you can spend an extra couple of hundred bucks up front for a LSx and get lots of HP factory stock, or you can spend thousands later on a LT1 to upgrade it to LSx horsepower levels.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd find a 6.0L LSx out of a truck and swap the intake and throttle body from a Corvette onto it. Not to say I don't like the LT1... it just has its limitations.

Yeah, that was a funny thread. Some people bag on running a rear sway bar. I installed mine because it came with the TVS kit, and that kit is tuned to work with the rear sway bar.

Since your going to autocross it, you may want to check into actually correcting the crappy front suspension geometry. (tall spindle, tall ball joint, etc.) It will handle much better with some negative camber gain.

I installed the TVS kit on my 68 Nova and at the same time replaced the upper and lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods, koni red shocks and idler arm. I did not install the rear sway bar yet to see how it handles. It feels like a differnt car :D It has to one of the best changes I have done to the car. I did have to change to a smaller tire in front. I went from 245 45 17 on a 8inch wheel to a 235 40 17 to keep it from rubbing on the outside of the inner fender.

Could have ran a 245/40..235 just dont have the bite the 245's do...Anytime I hit a bump or imperfection in the road the car would tend to dart, almost like driving on ice feeling...A little negative camber could have fixed that

Or the Guldstrand mod...

How stiff are the Hotchkis springs? Are they too stiff to give good weight transfer to the back on launches?
