Rebuilding subframe

Ok folks, I'd like to hear your experiences about restoring subframes.

Here's what I'm thinking: I have a 74 Nova that I was planning on rebuilding the suspension and brake upgrade. Since all of the components were going to be off, I had an idea to have the frame dipped and powdercoated. Before having it coated, check the welds and re-weld as necessary.

Any thoughts?

Not sure how much work you want to do. It sounds like a good plan; similar to what I did to mine. Had it blasted, powder coated and seam welded (completely weld both halves.) Some people go a step further and cut the factory welds off, separate the two halves; then clean, paint and completely reweld.

What do you plan to do for your suspension? Select the springs and bushings for your driving style. No mater what, I'd recommend solid body mounts when you put it back together.

For the suspension, was thinking of some stiffer lowering springs, boxing in the stock control arms, perhaps re-locating the mounting of the upper control arm (Guldstrand mod)

Hotchkis, DSE and Global West all have spring and shocks that will lower and firm it up.

I had my frame powder coated and love the way it looks!:yes: I left it as OE looking as possible, I like the factory look.

Also, before doing the Gulstrand Mod, checkout www.pozziracing.com. David Pozzi decribes the pros and cons of it and how to make Camao/Nova suspensions work. I decided against it for my application.

I read the pros and cons from the link you mentioned a while back. Just curious why you decided against it?
