The guy said he was serious about it, and it's more than I have into the car, so I gave him my number. I bought the car for $800, replaced the brakes, wheels, and tires, and just did a tune up. Needs a complete restoration, but it's all there and complete. The car isn't for sale right now. I just happened to bring it to a barbeque and someone mentioned it.
ya man i doubt anyone on here will tell u not to, for 4 grand u can by a much better one that needs less work then that one. take the 4 grand and get a nicer one

Your story really caught my attention because I also gave $800 for my '64 Post. I have a neighbor who pesters me regularly about buying it and his latest offer was $4,000 however I currently have $3,000 in it and I'd be hard pressed to get back to where I'm at for four grand so I'm not budging.
Yes, the absolute best time to sell is when you have a BUYER:D
And yes you should be able to replace it with a better one for four grand but it might not be overnight so be prepared for a little searching:yes:.....and don't "chip and dip" any of the four grand away in the meantime:no:........that's Nova money ya know:D
Good luck whichever way you go.

Yeah, it's really tempting. After sleeping on it, I think my nova is a good starting project. Not molested, never modified or beat up. Just old and original. It's all there, and I can work with that. I'm not really experienced or equipped enough to deal with a basket case at this point.
If he calls me, I'll say come give me the cash and you can take it home. But I'm not going out of my way to sell it. From what my friends told me, the guy is kinda flakey, so  we'll see. And I know it's a good offer, but who knows how serious he is?
Besides, Dave and I just tuned her up, and it'd be sad to have some tow it to a shop and just tear it down to nothing. I feel like it should be driven into the ground before a restoration really gets started. (Maybe that's because I don't have the money/space to do one right now.)

My problem is the regret... I have sold and thrown away Novas in the past that haunt me to this day. It is good money for the car but sometimes it is not about the money. I bought my 69 when I was 15, that was 20 years ago. It was my first car and I've experienced lots of firsts in that car... I needed the money in college and sold it in the mid 90's for $1000 bucks. I was able to buy it back after the guy restored it in 2005 for $12,000. I regreted every minute I didn't have it, now I will never let it go. I'm not trying to talk you out of it I just want you to think about it. If you have any sentimental attachment to the car it will haunt you. That's my 2 cents.
If you do sell it with the intention of buying something else do it right away. If your life is anything like mine that money will get spent on other more important things like a roof on the house before you know it. And then you have no car and no money...

1974 Chevy Nova 6 cyl

Decided to sell my project. Can't work on it where I live, and I'm tired of storing it so it has to go.
250 straight 6, automatic transmission. Starts up every time, needs a tune up but engine runs good. Converted to disc brakes up front with 2" lowering spindles and installed a new master cylinder. 15" Chevy rally wheels with chrome trim rings and caps. Otherwise it's completely stock and original.
Has surface rust and minor rust in typical locations (lower fenders behind wheels, tail light panel) but the replacement panels can be found and replaced easily. Windshield is cracked. Interior is in pretty good shape. Needs a new seat cover and driver's door panel. All in all, this is an unmolested original base model nova that is a great platform to start a project on. Never had any motor swaps, never been gutted and rebuilt. Bought from second owner a few months ago. Have some extra parts, and I've put more money into it than I'm asking.
$2000/ offer. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey you saw that? That was me, but I took that ad down because I found out my wife wasn't going to lose her job. Glad I did too. That ad is from a while ago, and the guy offered me the cash yesterday. It's mine, and I think Something69 nailed it for me. After looking at other cars, I think I'm most comfortable building this one up. I like the car, and I really want to stick with something. Besides the fact that I have a feeling the guy is a flake and might have had a few too many cocktails.
I guess I was just sort of surprised by the offer, and wanted to share. Just made me think about it, more than anything.

People offer to buy my car all the time. 99% of them probably wouldn't go through with it though. So I wouldn't put too much stock in the guys offer.

Yep, I'm right there with ya. Show me the money or shut up.
Most people just want to talk... something about BSing you with an offer they'd never follow through with gets their jollies off... :bored:

When I was in my early 20's, a very wealthy man told me, 'if you want to be rich, never fall in love with your assets.' That's easier said than done, especially when it comes to our beloved Novas, but what he said is true. If something you own can be sold for a profit, sell it and invest the profit in another appreciating asset, but don't fall in love with it:).
