Heater box resistor assembly

Before I spend a whopping 11 bucks on a new assembly I am wondering if there is a way to test mine before I replace it. Seems it will be a major pita to get a new one in once the box is installed. I am just on so tight of a budget, thought I'd ask first. It always worked before (I think), though its been sitting for 20 years. What does the resistor actually do anyway?

Have you checked for power to the resistor or at the motor itself? How is your ground from the blower motor? Does the blower work on high speed? The function of the resistor is to reduce the voltage to the blower motor to have it run at different speeds.

It's a simple part and upon inspection, everything seems ok, springs and terminals are intact. It functioned properly when I used it 20 years ago. Currently, I have a new blower motor and have not yet had a chance to test anything out but to answer your q's, no, I have not checked for power, not finished yet so I have no ground to the blower. I recall a single orange wire going to it so I am guessing the ground is via the blower support touching the heater box / metal on car.

So....any way via electrical test to verify this thing works before I put it all back in. Should be finished with my heater box renovations by the end of the week. thanks.
