HEY the 3rd generations have a ¼ mile sticky, how about one sticky for all in the DRAG RACING forum?
We should keep it to the car specs and time slip info – maybe the feedback and questions should go on a separate thread so it doesn’t get cluttered.

Thanks a pretty impressive time for what you have. How much power is that 327 putting out? Whats it turning (rpm) at the finish line with those gears?

Then plan to hook up the 300 HP fogger and see if I can get the car into the low 8's maybe high 7's. Trying to qualify the car for Super Chevy and big tire PSCA.

Rick, it does take that kind of HP when you are pushing a car that weighs 3,250 lbs without me in it. As for the heads there was extensive hand work done on these heads to include filling on the intake side.

Rick I disagree! I have a 70 Nova that tips the scales around 3190# with me in it and I ran 9.90's and I have right at 750HP give or take a few. Now keep in mind if you have a 2200# full blown drag car then NO it will not take 750HP to run 9's @ 135....that's common sense! I'd like to see you prove how a 3200 or 3250# car can run 9's without 700 or 750HP.....I'll be waiting for your reply......

Here's my reply These ARE Specs. on a 441 B.B. Chevy.,
This engine was dynoed on a Super-Flo engine Dyno. at Gressman Powersports here in Fremont Oh. (Not a desk top dyno figure),

.060 over 427
Huggings solid roller 268-276 @ .050 .687-.693 Lift
12.7 to 1 compression
GM Square-port cyl. heads,
Dart 4150 Intake
APD Alky 750
GM 3/8th's In. rods fitted with ARP Bolts
GM Steel Crank

This Simple little 427 B.B. Chevy Runs 10.40's at 127mph in a 3,600lb. (With driver) Natuarrly aspirated Tubbed out using 32x14.5x15 inch goodyear slicks, Stock front Suspension sitting in-between the Frame-rails of a 1984 Chevy C-10 Shortbed Pickup Truck,

Now cut 400 Lbs. from this truck/and say put it in your Lighter 3,200 lb. Car and you'll see the 3-4 tenths Faster ET. With a MPH Increase in the neighborhood of 4-5 mph IN Short generating 9.90's to low 10.0s at 134-135 mph in a 3,200 lb. Car.,

MPH IS The factor of How much HP your engine is Producing/at the weight.

Truth is,
This engine only Made 637 hp at 6,800 along with 581 Ft. Lbs. of torque at 5,500 on the Super-Flo Dyno.,
Using the Correct Barometric Pressures Logged in from the Fremont Airport/Along with the Correct Altitude Entered in from Same Airport.,

UNLESS this Correct Info. IS Logged in the computer/Dyno. upon making a Pull.,
You CAN Simply enter in ANY Mis-leading Info. and Make a True 500 HP engine Look to produce 700 Mis-leading Horsepower if you'd like it to/But it does look good on paper.,
The 3,600 Lb.+ C-10 Pick-up truck Truck Uses a>>
Coan 5,500 Convertor
Coan Turbo 400
9 Inch ford with 4.56 gears
Is launched off Footbrake,Shifted at 6,500 and sees 6,700 through traps in quarter Mile.,
60 Foot Times are Mid 1.44's,6.50's in Eight Mile at 107-108 Mph along with the Low 10.40's at 126-127 mph.,

This is my old 540 B.B. Combo. it produced a TRUE 813 hp at 7,200 with Torque in the 670 range at 5,900. on Same super-flo engine dyno. used to dyno. My Old 406 in first reply, along with the .060 over 427 mentioned above.

This engine when ran in a 2,001 225 WB Spitzer Chassis dragster ran Deadly Consistent Round winning 7.82-7.84's at 168-169 mph.,(This 540 was replaced with a 1,250 TRUE HP 632 Cu. Incher as shown on APD's Web-site,and now is runing in the 6.80's at 201-202 mph),
The 540 was placed in my OLD 72 Buick Skylark Tube Chassis Dragcar at 2,610lbs. (with me aboard) and ran Mid 8.60's at 156-157 mph with 60 Footers in the Mid 1.22-low 1.23 range off transbrake at 4,800 with 5,500 convertor and a BTE Equipped 1.80 Straight cut equipped Powerglide Trans.,

Now,
Say you add say 600 lbs. to the Buick/Or put it in your 3,200 Lb. Nova you'd still be going High 9.teens to Very Low 9.20's in the High 146+ MPH Range with the Same 540 Making 813 hp.,
In short explaining the Not having to have 750+ Hp at 3,200+ Lbs. to produce 9.90's at 135 mph.,

Not at all busting your Guy's Combo's/Cars.,
Just showing you a Couple engines that WERE Actually placed on a engine dyno.,
Along with the CORRECT Info. logged in,And the Times/MPH these engines run at a given weight.

Qwk.,

Port Clinton is approx. 12-15 Miles from Fremont (30-35 Miles from NRP)
Castalia is around 15-20 Miles from Fremont (25-30 Miles from NRP),
I'm located exactly 38 Miles from NRP (Norwalk Raceway Park),

148 MPH is a very good MPH for a 9.18 ET.,
These Guy's are Spaying a 400 Shot of the Go Fast Juice :D ,

The Lil Deuce Has'nt been hurt in 2 Yrs./And Does get driven Quite often on the Street,
After it received Norwalks Super Chevy Show Best Editors award in 2,002,
Fuel cell in Trunk was Re-filled,and the Lil Deuce was On It's way into the City of Downtown Norwalk for Ice-Cream Cones for the Kids :)

The Ford IS Constantly apart for the Head Gasket Failures,
Has Had NO Success Using Fel-Pro Full Race Series head Gaskets,The High $ 3 Piece Cometics Head gaskets,Nor Copper Head Gaskets with Sealant along with the O-Rings.,
The Ford Has NO Issues when spraying 300-325

After looking at the receiver grooves in the Cyl. Heads,
It was very evident of the Receivers being cut to deep in the heads from a shop in Tiffin Ohio (I Don't mention any names,as Not intented to give anybody a bad name),
Heads Are Now Welded back up,Re-decked,and are in the process of getting sent to Fast Times to have the receiver grooves cut in heads again (Properly),

He says He'll be happy with the Current times (A Tad faster with Cyl's sealing up properly),along with it being Maintenace Free like the Lil Deuce is.,

But i woud'nt be afarid to bet He'll then just add a Plate and Further push the envelope again.,
As He said Once he Got His 8.8 Sec. ET. Car would go back down to a 300 Shot

Not sure How to Post Pics. on Here,
Have Pics. of the Mustang/along with the Engine,Etc.

The Deuce keeps a Low Profile to keep it's "Sleeper" Attitude for the Street,
As He does alot of High $ Street Racin',
He Usually Keeps a 275 Shot when at the track to Slow Car down to throw off Any "Takers" watching Him Run then throws the "Smack" Down with the 400 Shot ;)

You'd More than Likely see a Gain in Performance by Having your Current Carb set up by my Buddy John at>> www.apdracing.com
The Mustang Gained a Full Tenth and 3 MPH,
More than Likely get you a 9.0 Pass at 150+ by a Simple Carb swap :)

If you Click on this Link and View this Corvette You'll see It's Ran Using a Natuarlly aspirated APD Built 632 Cu. Incher with a APD Built Powerglide and Twin APD 1250 Built Dominators.,
This Corvette Goes LOW 7.20's on engine alone (Car weight is a Tad over 2,500 with Barry Strapped in),
Makes 1,360+ hp at 8,600 on Superflo using a set of Sonny Leonard 14.5* Pontiac heads (Ex-Pro Stock Technology),
This Corvette goes Mid 6.90's at 202-203 mph with a 200 Shot.,
If you Strapped this 632 and Placed it on the Juice in a Dragster Look out ;)
http://www.apdracing.com/news.asp?ID=27

If you Know how to Post the Pics. here,
I Can send them to you By way of E-Mail for them to be posted if you'd care to post them?

I have finally put a mtr together that is working so far. I ran it last Sunday at www.mokandragway.com it,s on the Kansas/Mo state lines. My best et was 10.59 at 128.42,was a 130.51 mph run in there as well. Still bad 60ft times, my front shocks are extended, leaving no travel.I used the TCI clip and converted it to coil over. The prob is it came with dropped spindles, talking to Hartrods now to see if they would give me a swap out. I tried to put this in my signature (pic) but is too big. went and bested my best last sunday.14.0 (also put 93 in my car and went 15.7@89 last month all motor) w/ some tuning problems....car was breaking up on the top end which netted ****ty mph but decent times:1st pass 14.0@93...stalled it up higher, but forgot to check the pressure of the slicks (open diff.) and spun, that led to a 14.1@94.

First time out with totally new car , it went 12.70s at 106 three passes in a row , but didn't feel right , was pulling fine but felt lazy . Got home and proceeded to check everything out , pulled valve cover off and found no pushrods on exhaust or intake on #1 cylinder ! They were in lifter valley , changed lifters and pushrods for next time out . Second time out things went a little better , two 11.91s back to back at 113 and change and 3rd pass was 11.80 at 113 and change . Short times were 1.68 / 1.70 s.

350 factory bore, flat tops, stock 76cc heads 2.02in/1.6ex, Edelbrock Performer RPM Airgap, CC 292 cam, Holley Street Avenger 670 double pumper, TH350 w/B&M Shift Kit, 2500 stall, 2.5 dual exhaust w/Cherry bombs, 8.5 posi rear w/3.42 gears, CE subframe connectors, 4" cowl hood, 27.5x8" street radials, complete interior, roughly weighs 3500 lbs. Not exactly set up for dragging at moment, but still fun.

1/8 mi. - Roughly 9-10 sec. running 87 pump gas. Weather was very hot (90+ with about 30% humidity). Time could definitely be off since we couldn't figure out where the finish line was, believe it was the stack of cones. lol

Not too bad for my current setup and first ever run, but definitely have some work to do. I already know it's not fast enough for the strip, so will be changing a few things before I decide to play with the big dogs. I definitely have the need for speed, but I'm moving in a week and going to have to find a new strip in one of the most desolate areas of MI.

Was it spinning the tires? The 60 ft. time sure is slow for a 9 sec. pass, and it seems like a lot of mph for the e.t.
Are the numbers from a front wheel drive car?
(I wondered because the slip is from an import race)

Does the motor have any power adders ( nitros, turbo, blower) or is it N/A. Your car has some impressive numbers for a everyday (street car) Ha Ha. I bet there are alot of people that dont expect a car with no cage and a bench seat to run that fast.

Well, not really. I go by NOVACA1N on badassnovas.com as well, I was the one asking all those questions about your car, which is vhow I know your name. I know Rick Steinke races your car in the 12.00 index, and I was at Atco during a points day while my father was racing and I saw Rick dialed an 11.45 in super. If I recall he drove it to the track and put low octane fuel in the stock tank prior to the trip home. I think he was racing it because the dragster was broke. When I get my car done, I would drive it to the track if I didn't live on Long Island :beat: . Awesome car ;)

Also the car is min tubbed allowing me to run some 26x10.5 MT ET drag slick's(I know I can put a little bigger tire under it) and some runner's in the front. Not those real tiny *** Pizza cuter's, the next bigger set. Oh I all most forgot the tranny is a T-350 with a full reverse manual valve body. A Hurst quarter stick shifter. Shifting at 6200 rpm's. a Torco 9 1/2 billet convertor. 3500 stahl. The interior is a stock SS interior. Except for the shifter and the 5" monster tach. Which is all in very good shape. Not to be a dick, but your car is very slow for what it is. The 60 foot is in the toilet...My friend's 13 seond Monte pulls off quicker 60 foots...Judging from your MPH, if you could get that thing to 60 foot in the 1.40s-1.50s (where it should be) it would probably run in the 10.60-10.70 zone. Does the car spin, or just not transfer or??? What kind of shocks and torque converter do you have? Was the converter custom tailored to your car?

I would think a roller 14:1 477 in a 3300# car should be in the mid-low 10s without a sweat...Hell, my friend's 3900 # '68 Chevelle has run 10.11 with a oval port headed 11:1 468. Something is really wrong here...

LOL!!!

Joe, you hit the nail on the head. My car sits an inch lower after each run from all the tire spin. The car needs new shocks in the back, Cal-Tracs, and less convertor (8"). The motor'S almost spot on, just some minor tuning is needed. That would make things worse. The 60' sucks rhinoceros peter big time. If you ever have the chance to drive by Moroso dragstrip down here, KEEP DRIVING. This has got to be the worst track in the history of the sport. I'm needing a 9" convertor, taller tire, and serious tweaking. As it sits, I can only roll out in first to about the 60, then stand on it, still blazing the 8" M&H's. With a brake and slicks, it can go low 10's, with some dialing-in.

Sucks to watch it up to the line banging, then go 11's

OK, I finally took the show whore to the 1/8th mile. First time ever. Made six passes trying to sort everything out. Finally got the air pressure where the car liked it. Track temp was 125!!!

Best 60' - 1.54
1/8th - 7.07 @ 97.5

Car seems to bog at the start even launching with the brake and I suspect that the car is asking for more rear gear (currently 4:30s with a 31" tire). There is a whole lot more in it, but at least we have a good SAFE start and the car was consistent.

A few things I learned last night: 1) There is a lot of **** to think about from burnout to finish!, 2) Trying to fall asleep after your first real night of racing isn't gonna happen as the adrenaline was through the roof, 3) Trying to shut up about your first real racing experience just isn't gonna happen either!

My face hurts from smiling and I'm losing my voice from yelling in the car!!!

What a blast!

HEY the 3rd generations have a ¼ mile sticky, how about one sticky for all in the DRAG RACING forum?
We should keep it to the car specs and time slip info – maybe the feedback and questions should go on a separate thread so it doesn’t get cluttered.

I took it to the track last night for the first time since I swapped the manual transmission over to the automatic - and made three passes (1/8th) mile. The third was the fastest - 7.32 at 91 mph, with a 1.54 60 ft. I feel like I can get it in to the 6.90 range with a little more seat time in the car.

Just bought the car two months ago so I don't have a lot of the details.

SBC 400 ci
Lunati cam specs ?
holley 750
roller rockers
edelbrock intake specs ??
aftermarket heads specs ??
TH350
All steel body
regular street tires (Kelly radials)

reac -- 1.1578
60 ft. -- 2.1760
1/8 -- 9.1121
1/4 -- 14.1624
mph -- 96.92
All steel body

I believe I could improve my time a lot getting a better reaction time and being more aggressive out of the hole. I wasn't sure how much the tires would hold so I came out of the hole really slow.

What kind of time do you think I could expect with a half decent reaction time and 60 ft.?

Thanks,
Miguel

Reaction time does not directly affect your ET. How you stage can affect your reaction time and your ET.

Did that make sense?

Cipher
28th-March-2008, 10:15 AM
How so? What do you mean by how you stage?

mrhockey
28th-March-2008, 04:39 PM
It's called "rollout". The closer you are to rolling out of the stage beam, or bottom bulb, the quicker you reaction time will be, but your 60' and your 1/4 mile time may be slower since you didn't get a running start before you broke the beams to start the timers. It may not be a bad thing in eliminations, if you run a heads up class, since you are essentially closer to the finish line by staging deeper but if you are going for low ET in qualifications the best thing to do is just barely light the bottom bulb. This give you a little bit of a heads start before the clocks start. An extreme idea would be if you started your run at the water box, if it was dry of course. The clocks wouldn't start till you broke the beams and you would be rolling pretty good by then. Anyway you are probably lost so I will wait for another question.:D

Went to the first Saturady regular race program for the year yesterday.
Air was very good, temp was in the low 60s, humidity was very low.
Turnout was poor, probably because the track had recently been ground and grip was very low, for the fast cars anyway.

Due to the low turnout, they allowed open time runs till 6:30PM and then began eliminations.
I made 10 time passes b/4 eliminations began.
The second pass was new best and the best of the day......
R/T .133
60' 1.878
330' 5.294
1/8 8.097
MPH 87.89
1000' 10.521
1/4 12.576
MPH 109.79

I backed that run up about 3 hours later with a 12.578 and also got a 12.593 @ 110.03MPH. Got one run at 110.11MPH. Got a new low 60' time on the first pass of 1.847, figure that. Worst pass of the day was 12.707.

I ended up losing in the semis on a hole shot because I spun and also stupidly backed off, but won $50 anyway for making it to the semis.

With all of the passes, I got to experiment a little with staging. What I found was that the difference between shallow staging, say just lighting the second bulb and deep staging, say rolling in several inches after lighting the second bulb but not putting the first bulb out, made as much as one tenth difference in both the 60' time and the reaction time. So when I want to go for a low ET, not worried about reaction time, it pays to shallow stage. When I am in eliminations I need to deep stage or figure out a different leave point.

No matter what we tried it was a lousy 7.5 bracket car, foot brake, trans brake, leave off idle, or 4500 rpm, carb change, timing change, fuel octane change, everything but the 7.5 sec. was changed.

Took the engine apart and found the issue. The cam timing marks were lined up perfactly, which seamed odd to me, as the cam was supposed to be advanced. So we degreed the cam and WOW, it was not advanced, in fact it was retarded 8 degrees.

Since then I have a new approach, don't hire others, do it yourself, and if you don't know how, learn then do it.

I now know why we ran 7.5 each and every time, no matter what we did.

Well we put it together properly now, can't wait to see what it will do now.

one of my buddies , said he took 200 pounds off the front of his 66 by using corvair front suspension and a pinto rack. Its a pretty neat looking set up , a corvair is front steer so the rack worked good , but i think he had to shorten each side some. The corvair suspension unbolts from the corvair frame , and he knotched the 66's frame and set the corvair suspension in the slot , welded it up , corvair is a 5 bolt hub with the same bolt pattern. It drove good and ran straight.

I like it!
I'd guess you've got a good bit still in there, like maybe 3 or 4 tenths anyway.
I suspect you are spinning off the line a bit though the launch attitude looks pretty neat.
You could probably fit 235X60X15s on there on 7" rims.

it does not feel like it spins. have the split monos on now so may have to re set my combo

wow I amost sh*T I saw ur time and started to read what u have in your 406 RV cam 3.36 stock converter Q-jet sportmens 11.40 wow I have a 296Solid cam 3.73s dart 200s 3800 converter headers electric w/p msd the works and I only go 11.50s then I happened to see the little 150 shot at the bottom made me feel alot better.....but gear it with 4.10s now that u got the 200trans little bigger cam a 3500 converter and a 99.00 set of 1.5 inch headers( Quiet as a mouse)and youl'll go 11.40s w/o the juice like me should go 10.20 or better with a 150 shot.I drive mine every day it my only car!!!! ur only young once easy to say when ur 53yrs young heck u could dust this next guy with a big block.........oh yeh might need a 750 demon too manifold ok with a one inch spacer!!!!

I just saw this. have'nt looked at this thread for a a long time.

the car has since ran 11.13 @ 120 with a 210HP shot, and traction limited.

I never got a full pass with the 2004R. it kept blowing the tires off at the hit. i put the TH350 back in it.

the car was built to stay under the radar (hence the username), and I've since stopped racing the car. Hasn't been on a track in 3 years

That launch was off the transbrake at 3800 rpm, no spray.

Footbraking at about 2000 rpm gets me a smaller wheelie like this:

Went to Sac. last saturday. My best ever pass of 12.25@113.9mph, with a 60' of 1.63.
New tires have too much traction for my little 383, it bogs the motor just after launch. Raised launch from 4500 to 5500, and it improved, but still a slight bog. Raised tire pressures to make another pass and it started raining.
Will go again on the 17th.
