How much did it cost to put a cage in your carbigbadbp7 15th-April-2009, 12:22 AM How much does a cage cost? Installed and complete buy a shop? Rough estimates what you guys pay? Ryan V64SS 15th-April-2009, 12:46 AM I had a shop install an Art Morrison 8 pt cage with alston swingouts and a removable backbrace for easy access to the back seat. mild steel mig welded, i paid $1400. I was never happy with the fit and the welds.:( I recently cut the cage out and had a chrome moly 10 point custom bent cage installed all tig welded. just over $3000. I am fully happy this time around even though my wallet is a little thin these days.:D Ryan V64SS 15th-April-2009, 12:47 AM BTW, pull out ALL interior your self to save money and potential damage. Tubbed63 15th-April-2009, 08:50 AM General rule of thumb is around $100 to $120 per point. So 8 point around $800 to $960. johnh 15th-April-2009, 08:50 AM upgraded from a 6 point to a 10, tin work to seal off the back seat area, window net install, and an anti roll bar installed, and some floor board replacement. $1900.00  Good friend and fellow racer.... http://mullinsfabrication.com/christmanandmullinsracing.htm bigbadbp7 15th-April-2009, 02:49 PM Well i want a cage were i can still have all my stock interoir and still have the protection of a cage. Maby with swing out bars, Do swing out bars take away from the cage structure In my opinon, NO. mine passed NHRA cert. so they must think so as well, as long as it is done right..... http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119564 Check that thread for some pics... Ryan V64SS 15th-April-2009, 05:35 PM Well i want a cage were i can still have all my stock interoir and still have the protection of a cage. Maby with swing out bars, Do swing out bars take away from the cage structure They will protect you from a side impact as well as welded diagonal bars, but you loose pretty much all torsional ridigity, as they are basically on hinges. bigbadbp7 15th-April-2009, 05:39 PM ok sweet. Looks sturdy to me:yes: now I need to find a shops around my area to get quotes. Definely want to get it painted and beable to put carpet in their bigbadbp7 15th-April-2009, 05:42 PM They will protect you from a side impact as well as welded diagonal bars, but you loose pretty much all torsional ridigity, as they are basically on hinges. Whats torsional ridigity? Ryan V64SS 15th-April-2009, 05:58 PM Whats torsional ridigity? the car twisting from torque. Ryan V64SS 15th-April-2009, 06:08 PM Learn from my mistakes, don't just go with the best price. Look at cars at car shows or at the track, and you will see that no 2 cages are the same. Look at the difference between a mig welded cage and a tig welded cage. Tig welds look much nicer but also cost more. Look at the difference between a pre-bent and a custom bent cage. Look at how well fit the cage is in the car, and how well fit the tubes are to each other, and how even side to side the gaps are from the cage to the body. There are many levels of craftmanship out there, my first cage was a level 3 at best and my current cage is a level 10 IMO. I had to spend alot more for my second cage but it is a chromemoly, custom bent and tig welded cage. Find out what you like best and where it was done at. Lastly, swingouts are nice and convient but for me they were a PIA. I am much happier with no swingouts and my car is much stronger because of it. bigbadbp7 15th-April-2009, 06:30 PM Yes i learned in everthing you do get what you pay for. Installed and complete buy a shop? Rough estimates what you guys pay? I bought 3 sticks of 1.625 X .134 wall from shaprio supply for 120 dollars cash. Then I borrowed a friends bender. I found the radius of the bender then made some circles of that radius out of plywood, then made some wood strips. I cut and screwed it all together to determine where the bends should start. It is a 10 pt. and I am happy with it. It only took me 1 weekend to fit it all up. Oh yea I also used my bridgeport to cut the bars, but a drill press will suffice.
