If so, what does the spring do that is next to the end of one side of the hose do? What do you connect it to; it self, or the hardline?

Do you use the U clip or just stick the end through the brake line holder and have the nut that comes with it, hold the line to the brake line holder?

The only spring I have seen is for the parking brake cable. They are stainless braided hoses? I have stainless to hard line. I have the nut with the grove in it. I welded new "L" brackets on the axle housing that the nut sits in and a "U clip" is used to hold it firm. JR

Those are there to make them DOT approved. It keeps the hoses from kinking if bent over too far. Pretty ugly huh?
