Possibly an SS??

Hey everyone, I still am up in the air as to whether or not my 71 is actually an SS.

Here is the scoop:
Factory Power Disc brakes
3/8" fuel line (which fed to SS's or so I've been told)
11427 are the first 5 digits on the VIN

Confusion:
10 bolt rear end
bench seat
auto

Was this an SS with some dealership options or a standard ride with some SS options thrown on??

Any help is appreciated!

What are the first 5 digits on the tag?
11427?
11327?
11127?
There were no big block Nova's in 71.
Bench seat, auto, discs, and 10 bolt were available on SS or non SS.

Is there one fuel line or two from the tank?

there is two.. one is looped off and the other feeds up to the engine..

but what about the big block springs?

So what's the difference between a big block spring, a small block spring, a 6 cylinder spring, 4 cylinder....oops! those stopped a year before.
In 30+ years do you think maybe a few things might have been changed from stock?

Does the car have any SS emblems on it anywhere?

The dual fuel line from the tank, down the body, up the frame, and to the engine is the best clue. In '71, there was only one engine option for the SS, and it was the 350 4-barrel. The Q-jet carb required the second line, a fuel return line. None of the other engine options required it.

Also look and see if there is an exhaust holding bracket on both rear frame rails for the dual exhaust.

The 10-bolt rear throws me just a little, but I'm thinking that an automatic may have got the 10-bolt and a 4-speed got the 12-bolt. Anyone else know for sure?

There were NO emblems anywhere on the car when I got it haha. I had holes in the deck lid for the nova emblem that goes there but the fender emblems were filled in and there was nothing on the grille either

Yeah it does have the return line on there, although now those tubes are snipped and there is only one functioning. the male adapters for the return line are closed off with a rubber hose looping them..

Where on the frame rails would they be exactly (so I know where im looking)

and if anyone can answer this question that would be great:

"The 10-bolt rear throws me just a little, but I'm thinking that an automatic may have got the 10-bolt and a 4-speed got the 12-bolt. Anyone else know for sure?"

ok. I could not tell from your avatar pic if there was an emblem on the grill, but I could see that there were not any louvers on the hood. That is why I asked the question.

All options that came with the SS package could be ordered on any car with the exception of the engine, and of course the SS badges. There are some options that people think were included with the SS package, but never were part of the SS package. Bucket seats, consoles and tachs are all thought to be SS items, but they were not. They could be had on any car.

Is there any holes for the tail panel between the tail lights, if these are not present it's 100% not an SS, if they are it is still a might! This was also a non SS option!
I have a L78 SS with no options, bench seat rubber floor covering, only SS badging L78 4spd and 12 bolt.

Back to the springs.

What springs are on the back?

Are there spring tags on the fronts? if so what is the number?

Are the dual exhaust inserts in the sheet metal under the car?

these can help but not prove it.
