i have finally found the pieces(and money) to put a vinyl top back on the car and have a question. did all 3rd gen's use a 3 piece top? we really like the look of a 1 piece, but don't want to have to explain at every cruise in why the top is the way it is? so what is everybody's opinion on this. thanks

I don't know, but mine has a three piece on it. I know it's not original though, but I really don't mind the seam at all, in fact, up till now I never even thought about the seams.

It's your car...so ultimately you're the one who has to be happy with the look. You didn't mention how original the car was beyond the vinyl top...or if it is a real vinyl top car to begin with. The seamed factory style top looks great in my opinion if it is done right....perhaps the one piece would as well. Just make sure it doesn't have all that padding under it....that will make it look like some disco era cruiser:no:

I am getting ready to put the top on my 68 and Tom is right the top with the padding under it looks a little puffy, if you will, but is cheaper. Its 120 for that kind of top or you can buy one from SMS and get the original material ,but its 300.

My original vinyl was a 3 piece and replaced it with a 3 piece. Can't tell it has ever been changed. Being the car is 37yrs old you know it has to have been.
