On my 68 nova L-79 motor there is a fitting on the oil tube for a PCV hose they used on earlier L-79s. It is blocked off. Anybody ever seen that on a small block in 68 where it is blocked off?

On my '71 I seem to remember there was an L fitting that ran a smallish (maybe 3/8 ID) hose over to the carbon cannister. Did you have one of those on your '68? Dave OldGuy 71Acadian 24th-January-2009, 09:35 PM I'm old and don't recall or maybe just old. Post us a pic firebird69racer 25th-January-2009, 01:54 AM In 68 they didn't have any thing in the valve covers. So the PCV valve was screwed into the oil filler tube that is in the front of the intake manifold. and a Vac. hose was attached to it and ran to the carb, and there was a hose attached to the air cleaner that went to a hose nipple that was attached to the back of the block by the dist. Someone may have put later valve covers on and plugged the fitting. This is how most SBC were done. Maybe the Novas were done different, I am not 100% sure. JeffL 25th-January-2009, 03:59 PM My L-79 has a pcv hose in the valve cover, its looks original to the intake. JeffL 25th-January-2009, 04:04 PM Maybe they made a mistake at the factory and thought since it was a L-79 it got the tube with a fitting in it and just pluged it off. firebird69racer 31st-January-2009, 11:12 AM It is hard to say what the factory does sometimes. It might be a late 68, or a prior owner changed it. Have you asked this question in the Originality Section? Crazyjake 31st-January-2009, 08:25 PM Hi Jeff- My 68 L79 also had that hole plugged. Not sure what it was used for as there were 2 vents in the valve covers. The right side was just a vent tube that went to the base of the air cleaner. The left side had a PCV in the valve cover and went to the base of the carb. JeffL 1st-February-2009, 03:44 PM Dan thank you for responding. I was stressing about the oil tube and was going to use the one with the fitting anyway and with your 68 L-79 having one makes me think it was on the assy sheet to put one on because of the L-79 motor from past years. Your car is a 1C (3rd week of Jan) made and mine is a 4E (5th week of April) Mike M. has a 6A ( First week of June) and is going to let me know about his tube. | |
