moboman 22nd-January-2009, 09:07 PM Does anyone know anything about the pushbutton radio option for a '68 nova. Like where I can get one? :D I'm looking for a replacement or any information on what other cars came with them. Or if you know what commonly goes wrong with them.
It hasn't worked since I purchased my car in August, and it looks like the radio itself is bad. :(
I can take a picture of it if that will help. But here is the window sticker.

72GreenRally 22nd-January-2009, 09:55 PM It is a non-technical 3rd gen question. ;)
I'll let repo know. :)
taz3 22nd-January-2009, 09:57 PM Please don't call me Repo!:eek::devil:
moboman 22nd-January-2009, 09:58 PM Thanks guys. And thanks repo.
Now can someone help me? :D
Thanks,
David
taz3 22nd-January-2009, 10:03 PM Do you have any pics of the radio?
Tommy might be the best guy to help you, I'll have to check and see if I still have a gents card who repairs them up here.
taz3 22nd-January-2009, 10:11 PM Here's the gent I met at a show up here, Grandpa's Radio Shop 519-576-2570 George, he repairs all the older radios, he's in Kitchener On Can.
mrrepodude 22nd-January-2009, 10:18 PM Taz, since I moved this one to you I should let you know I accept payapl for my commissions:yes::D
moboman 22nd-January-2009, 10:24 PM It is kind of like this one here, but the numbers on the radio are different.

I'll try to get a picture a little later.
It's AM only.
72GreenRally 22nd-January-2009, 10:26 PM You might want to check what 64pronova did with his radio.

To me, if you want to retain the original look, that is the way to go.
moboman 22nd-January-2009, 10:48 PM Thanks for posting that '72, looks like that might be an option.
DAVES7DNOVA 22nd-January-2009, 11:12 PM Check out this site. It may be an option for your radio. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze6kave/index.html
fastfreddy 22nd-January-2009, 11:26 PM Mine never worked from the day I bought the car in '74, but a few years ago, I had a co-worker who's dad was a regional GM Delco rep. He took it to an authorized repair shop in Dayton that he used for that area. I no longer have the connection to be able to offer that support, but wanted to let you know that mine was repaired just up the road from Cincinnati. I do remember that the name of the shop did not have any obvious connection to GM, I assume it is just a local shop that had gained authorization for GM repairs. Knowing this, there are possibly many shops that could help you out.

moboman 22nd-January-2009, 11:33 PM Thanks guys.
Fast eddy, do your remember where abouts in dayton they were located. Dayton is only an hour from me.
I think there used to be an entire delco plant in dayton.
Tommy 23rd-January-2009, 06:08 AM David, I haven't worked on the guts of the radios at all so I can't help with that. Do you know if the speaker is good? Is the light on the radio coming on? I have one 68 with a good radio and the speaker has died. If you can't fix your radio, I have one or two extra 68 radios I can part with. Just PM me if you need one and I will dig them out and check them to make sure they still work.
Tommy :)
moboman 23rd-January-2009, 08:45 AM Thanks Tommy.
The light does not come on. I'm not sure about the speaker. I checked the power wire with my volt meter and when the ignition is on, the wire is hot. I also checked the fuse, and it is good. The ground strap was firmly attached to the radio too.
If I remember, I'll take a picture before I leave for pittsburgh this afternoon.
moboman 23rd-January-2009, 12:30 PM ok. I took a couple of pictures.

I would suggest going with Tommy here on SNS. Clarence on Craigslist here in WA charges way too much money for junk parts. :( He hoards old Novas and Camaros, parts them, keeps the good stuff, and sells the stuff he doesn't want at top dollar. :(
moboman 23rd-January-2009, 11:32 PM Hey Tommy I pmed you.
I'd rather get an original AM radio for now. Maybe sometime in the future I would consider doing an upgrade to the stock radio. I want to keep the miles as low as possible, if it has a nice radio I'd be more tempted to drive it.
Tommy 24th-January-2009, 12:16 AM I will be over at the garage tomorrow and will get them. I know I have two of them and I remember checking one a few years ago and it worked. Yours is the correct unit and mine are the same as the one you have. I'll PM you with the details tomorrow. My junk is reasonable.... :D
I just removed one from a parts car that had the windshield out for some time and the radio was trashed from rain... I thought about gutting it and making a dummy radio for someone with a 68 that wanted to cut some weight but still have the dash look good....
Tommy :)
moboman 25th-January-2009, 07:55 PM Thanks a lot Tommy. I sent you a pm back.
Tommy 25th-January-2009, 11:19 PM Thanks, I was walking out the door when you sent it. :)
Tommy :)
justin72nova 27th-January-2009, 12:45 PM I'm getting the Retrosound year one radio, so if you want a Pontiac radio, I have one.
