Are drop spindles too low?

My Nova has cut springs and am considering the CPP drop spindles. I have the supercomp headers, 17 in wheels. I am told that stock height of car in 24.5 in. ground to fender lip, center to wheel. :turn:

Take 2" off were you are now. Were are you now?

It will be if you use both. What size tire are you running on the front? Go with the spindles, chuck them cut springs...

Never did like that idea, unless it is a manufactured dropped spring from the factory, heating ruins the spring rate, and is not consistant.......

Hooker supercomp headers hang fairly low. If the springs you have give you enough ground clearance, then adding drop spindles, you may not have enough.

I have new stock height springs and drop spindles to be put on. The Nova is in the shop now so can't measure the current height. I'll do that tomorrow.

My car has a 24.5 tall front tire with CPP drop spindles. The measurement at the center of the wheel from ground to the fender(SS moulding) is 22 3/4.I have the Hooker Super comps a Canton pan 8.5 deep and a deep finned trans pan.I can get over most average speed bumps(carefully) and have never drug the underside of the car going down the road.I driveit to local cruises/shows with a trunk full of chairs, ice chest and cleaning supplies and three people and have not had any problems being to low.I do have the advantage of the CPP adjustable coil overs to easily adjust my ride to where I want.I know the ride quality is much better with the drop spindles and stock springs than with cut or lowered spings.I can set the car on the ground and take some measurements if it is any help to you.I am not sure what ride height you will end up with with the stock springs but new springs will settle slightly with time.

I had drop spindles and cut springs, with 145/15 skinnies on my 65 when I first put it back together. Drove it 360+ miles to the CA Mini-Nats, and everyone commented on how low it was. Looked killer, but, it was too low to drive much. Since I drive the car almost everyday, I ended up going with a stock height spring. Car still sits low, but much nicer getting in and out of gas stations and over speed bumps.

That is the real honesty. It is how and where you drive.

I have drop spindles on my 72 and the ride height is OK with Hooker Super Comp headers and stock front springs. I have noticed the turning radius is not that great. It is manual steering to boot which make turning the wheel near the end a real workout. I also have stock ride height multi leafs in the back, but do not like the stance in the back. Am gonna try and bring it down with some Hotchkis lowered multi leafs and see how it looks then.

This could be hearsay but...original or used stock springs I have heard can give you approximately the same ride height or just higher than drop spindles and new springs due to the wear. So, if you have new springs you might want to just look for some used ones and spend less.

Please correct if I am wrong anybody.

There is a problem with trying to lower a car very much with just the springs. It really messes with the front end geometry:yes:

Exactly. As everything having a professional lower your car is the best. 1st and 2nd Nova suspension is evolving.

I was out yesterday were my car is and it hit he to see were me car dose set at. 20 1/2" at the center of the lip. I do not have drop spindle on now but will soon. And I am running the Auto Fab QA1 Coil Over conversion on the car. With the churchboys rack and his sway-bar.

Your headers must not hang down. Are you talking about your black car or the silver one. Does the silver car have a clip? My supercomps are about 3-4 in. of the ground and I only have about a inch cut off the coils. My car is about 22.75 in to the lip, 17 in wheel 205/40/17 tires.

No reply from Tim, so the reason I started this is to find out why various drop spindles increments say 1in & 1.5in drop spindles are not manufactured. For granted it is cheaper to just cut a spring and lower a car, but as suggested before the geometry is thrown out more the more the spring is cut. It seems with all the newer technology manufacturing spindles should be more profitable. Sometimes simple isn't? :turn:

I would assume that the reason they only make 2 inch drop is cost.It wold be ideal for us as car guys if we could choose different amounts of drop but it does not work that way.The pictures I have seen of you car it sits about 1.5 to 2 inches lower than stock. So stock springs and 2 inch drop spindles would put you right about where you are now.Tim has fenderwell style header that do not hang down quite as low as chasssis headers.

Also, your 205 tire has less sidewall height than say a 215 or 225. You could gain up to 3/4" there. I had 205's...too low for my liking, the rim was just too close to the road surface. Run a 215/45 now no problems......

I realize the factors with my car and thanks for the input but with all the great performance suspension parts for chevys 1968 above I'm thinking the same goodies for Novas has a ways to go leaving out clips. Thanks
