Pro Street - Rear Coilovers

I'm going through the rear-end in my Nova, so while I had in out, I pulled the shocks out.

They're AVO Promasters, very old, I'm guessing, with QA1 12" 150 lb. springs, 16 1/2 inches long center/center, extended. I don't know what the compression length is, haven't stripped the springs off of them yet.

I'm looking to replace the shocks and keep the springs.

Any suggestions? I've looked (not exhaustively, though) and can't seem to find any shocks that are 16 1/2" in length. If I can't find any, is it better to go longer in length or shorter?

Suggestions are welcome.

Many thanks.

Yeah, I just looked on there as well. Not much going. What is the part number on these? I see my stockers have an eye hole on one end and just a post on the other side? Is this correct? I don’t really want to change my ride height but will these allow me to keep it low?

Yeah, your stock shocks have a stud upper mount.

Nice try Tim!! Just my luck, I get in too late!

TomM

Yes it will keep your ride height, you can get the post adapter from jegs.....

How did you have them in your ride? I will look for those adaptors and see what that will cost. Thx

I'll ask my friend that bought my 66 recently (Miller's Garage on here) if he wants to sell the shocks & springs off it. They are brand new adjustable QA1's with 130# springs. From what I remember, at ride height I set them at 14 1/2". Your 150# springs sound awfully heavy. I ran 80# before and they worked well with a ladder bar setup...a little light for the street but it rode nice.

He just put a ShockWave air setup on it, so took the shock & springs off. I have a pair of Koni coilovers too but they aren't adjustable with a knob like the QA1's if you are interested.

I'd appreciate it! If he will sell, I'm interested, if they're priced right. I like the adjustable feature, and with the 130# springs (and my ladder bar setup), I'll use them that way. If I don't like them, I can always try my 150#'ers.

Many thanks!

Hey T. I looked under my car last night and it looks pretty close. I’m not sure those will fit. There is only a 1/2 inch or so between the stock shock and the axle. What is the diameter of those? I will take a measurement tonight of the length and diameter of my stockers. Thx

Thx T Ill recheck mine tonight. As far as making them work. Does that adaptor you were talking about make my car accept the shock or make the shock mount to my car? Did you do something to your car to accept the same mounts at the top and the bottom?

TomM
20th-January-2009, 07:08 PM
Didn't do anything to the bottom mount, just bolt and washers, as for the top, bought the stud kit, unscrewed the eye and screwed the new stud on and then bolted it to the shock plate, even comes with the rubber grommets and all.....link below....

We're currently in negotiations. :) You wouldn't happen to have a picture of them?

I'm just trying to figure out if the poly bushing makes any difference than the heim joint type connection.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the picture and information. These are exactly what I want, it appears.

Ken is sending a current picture, and if it's the same, he's got a deal.
