Not for my 62, but a question anyway. Please answer if you have (or had) air shocks.

I have a 55 chevy, thats lowered in the back with lowering springs, and blocks. It looks great, but the tire (which I want to keep) is a bear to get into the wheelwell. I have to hang the suspension as far as possible, and then deflate the tire to get it on.

Here's my rocket scientist idea... I have a set of brand new air shocks that came with the car. (no cost) If I run those, and with 0 air pressure most of the time, not increasing the the harshness or height. Then when I need to swap tires, I can inflate them to push the springs down that 1" I need to change the tires....

Well -------am I an idiot?

Sounds like a good, no cost plan to me. I think you have to run some minimal amount of air in the shocks though......maybe 10PSI. I think otherwise, the air bladers could be damaged.
