I never heard it refered to as a pat cossey conversion - I did the same swap on my wagon years ago - if you do a search on the site you'll find this swap has been discussed many, many times.

i am just referring to the article that he wrote and shows that the only difference between a drum spindle and a disc spindle is machining off about half an inch where the spring anchor mounts

I modified my stock spindles like described in the article and annd 68-72 Chevelle discs. It is very simple.

Do the caliper brackets that mount to the spindles use a particular bolt or can I just use a grade 8 bolt?

Yeah, it's a short, fat, grade 8 fine thread bolt. Mine came with the kit I bought, and the bolt looks pretty unique for that application. It's got an unusually larger bolt head, I guess to hold the bracket and backing plate against the spindle. OR...grind the little nub off of the stock drum bolt, and wallah!

Mine was with the donor parts I got from a 71 El Camino, but I agree you should be able to grind or cut off the nub and re-use the bolt you pull out. A word of caution on this, don’t just assume a half an inch comes off, mount the caliper bracket to the lower mount and rotate the bracket up to the top mount, measure to the back of the bracket, the distance could be different on each side.
